Hi I am new to this group and wonder if there are any fellow suffers out there? I have been on steroids under the advice of my consultant for over 2 years but don’t seem to be getting anywhere, as soon as I reduce the dose my symptoms return, the information I read never can give a time limit, it seems to vary from 18 months to 6 years. Any advice would be welcome.

  • Steroids are only for short term use They can be difficult to get off and must be done gradually People have their own views on the best dietsfor this .condition.

Welcome to the Online Community @MaryElizabeth

It's lovey to see a new member's first post being one trying to support another member.

You are quite right about steroids in general being only for short-term use. Their side effects mean that usually Drs avoid longer term use. However with PMR Polymyalgia Rheumatica the treatment is predominantly steroids as detailed in the article about PMR above.

You haven't said which type of Arthritis you have yourself which is absolutely fine. I am going to attach a link which hopefully will have something of interest to you:

You are also right that people have their own opinions about diet this is what Versus Arthritis has to say on the subject:

    My best wishes

    Ellen.

@Ellen The link to Eating Well references arthritis, though not PMR. Is it thought that certain nutrition regimens affect all such conditions that same. I didnt realize that PMR fell under the label arthritis, but rather auto-immune. (I’m researching that now.) Thank you!
