Day 4 of new hip!
I had my new hip and was in hospital for 2 nights. The staff were amazing but it’s nice to be home.
I was very sore initially but am keeping on top of the pain with my meds. The hip itself has gone from feeling weird and almost like a wooden leg that didn’t want to move, to now feeling just different to form before. The constant ache that I had is now gone, to be replaced by a hopefully healing ache.
The exercises are hard, but I’m doing them. Only managed 2 lots yesterday instead of 3 but am determined to do 3 today.
Stairs are also a challenge on crutches, but I’m coping.
Let’s see how today goes xx

Hey @Mommabear
I'm glad you're doing ok - I remember that feeling you said was like a wooden leg….it took me ages to stop feeling like the leg wasn't mine, I think it was because it wouldn't do what I told it to do!
You're doing fabulously, don't overdo the physo - it's easy to think yeah I can do this and I can do more, more isn't always better in the early days. Slow and steady progress is good, there will be good and bad days - remember it is a marathon, not a sprint!
I'm glad I didn't have to use crutches when I got home, I had a second stair rail fitted before my surgery and it was a godsend and only needed one walking stick to go up and down stairs. I'd recommend getting a second one to everyone.
Keep up the good work, don't try to do too much too soon and listen to your body!
Trish xx

Hi. So glad that you are now at home and managing well so soon after your surgery. Like @Trish9556 my leg also felt heavy and wooden after surgery and it took a while for it to feel more normal again. It may not feel like it at the moment but I coped by saying that each day brought some improvement be it only small. There were good days and bad days when I did not always do all the physio so don't be too hard on yourself. You will get there eventually. Take care🙂

I think you are doing really well @Mommabear I'm so pleased you are home and now working on your recovery.
As Trish said slow and steady wins the race. There will be days when you have to rest more and days when you can do more just trust your body to heal and look after yourself.
A lot of people say that the grinding arthritis pain is gone now you have post operative pain which is quite understandable.
Be careful on those stairs!
Keep up the good work

@Mommabear Wow, you are doing well and so soon. Take care you don't overdo it, although sometimes you don't know how much exercise is too much without trying so don't worry too much. If you overdo it have an easy day to follow and you should be fine.
Yes, the heavy leg, I thought it would never go, but eventually it did and I gained control over it.
Take care.

Hi @Mommabear
Glad to read you're doing well in the healing process.recovery is never easy..I'm about to see a clinician re my left hip, with probable replacement, I'm concerned i wont be physically strong enough, as I've had two ankle fusions over the last 3 years, and 8 months post last one..so much pain has left me weaker, and legs are very weak, plus now severe hip pain, its scary to be honest...did you have much help with physiotherapy before your op...🙂
