Dislocation of replacement hip
Morning, I have just dislocated my replacement hip for the second time. The pain is unbearable until it is repositioned under general anaesthetic. My hip replacement took place in Feb 2022, dislocated in sept 2022 when twisting round, and again last week when picking something off the floor. I am waiting to see my consultant. I have lost all confidence and am becoming depressed at how I live my life now. Can you advise if you know of any options for the future? I hear that revisions are not particularly successful and can dislocate more often. Lynne

Hi @Jolly
Unfortunately we do hear the odd occasion where the hip dislocates after surgery due to the muscles being weak around the hip joint. What usually happens is they operate to put the hip back in position and provide strengthening exercises to prevent future dislocations.
There is some info on the website about it which you may have seen and it also contains some exercises that could be useful to gain strength and future issues, there is also info about hip revisions which are seeing increasing success - Hip replacement surgery | Treatment options | Versus Arthritis.
Hope this helps and all the best, keep us posted how you get
