Partial Knee Replacement

Hi there

I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar situation to mine and should appreciate your advice: 10 years ago was diagnosed with OA in knee, 8 years later the pain was excruciating, couldn't sleep, had pain when resting etc and it took a year and a half to get a referral to Physio which worked to a certain extent. Then after 6 months the physio referred me to a senior physio at MSK Dept and he then referred me to a surgeon where I was told to have a partial knee replacement as a gel injection probably wouldn't work. I have a smaller gap in meniscal joint, a couple of small bone spurs and a tear to meniscus. However, 8 months ago I joined a gym and got a personal trainer who gave me specific knee exercises. The upshot is that today my knee feels so much better, I can walk, garden, sleep without pain. Occasionally I get a twinge which is slightly painful but the pain doesn't persist. So my question is should I still have the surgery or postpone it? It's not that I don't want it, just that I am 60 and a partial only lasts so many years and am I being premature. Or should I be grateful that my leg muscles are strong and therefore recovery will be better. I know the OA won't go away but I just don't know what to do. I just can't seem to talk to anyone else. Thank you!

hi @JJPetal , first of all, welcome to the online community. It's great to have you here. I'm glad to hear that you have felt such immense relief from the exercises your trainer gave you; that's amazing!

Unfortunately, I do not have any helpful advice, but hopefully, someone who has more experience will come along and give you some advice. Have you discussed your concerns/thoughts/feelings with your medical team? They may be able to give you a more comprehensive pros vs cons list of postponing the surgery and help you reach a more informed decision.
