I’m just over 3 weeks post new hip. I think I’m making steady progress, apart from my slight oops a few days ago! I’m progressing onto the next set of physio exercises as well as the first set, and although these seem hard, so did the first ones initially.

Moving in general is much better, but sleep is still awful - I manage a couple of hours then I’m awake for a couple because I can’t get comfortable, never been able to sleep on my back.

The new hip mobility wise I think is fine, but it’s still really quite sore going upstairs or up a slope, our drive way is on a slope and I really feel it when walking on it. Do I push on and keep improving my mobility or give it more rest. Yesterday I rested more and it’s still pretty sore this morning.

I’ve read lots os posts about other people’s recoveries, and understand that we all heal at different rates, there must be a hell of a lot of stuff going on under the scar!! The scar is quite lumpy where I’m sore, would a bit of massage help only gently with a wash cloth?

Also, I’m only taking paracetamol twice a day now, 2x2 at lunch and bedtime, plus Aspirin as a blood thinner and a stomach protector, I’m wondering if this is enough? I’m going to call the hospital physio again for advice, but would also welcome your thoughts.

I also read in one post about people experiencing a kind of low and feeling fed up and frustrated around the 3 week mark, I think that just about sums me up.

Trying to stay positive, looking forward to a good outcome

    Hi @Mommabear

Get yourself a tub - not a bottle - of E45 cream and rub it into your scar as often as you want to. I usually use a big glob and massage gently into the scar.

Recommended to me by one of my many surgeons years ago.

Feels even better if you put it in the fridge.

I also learnt recently when having a bad facial flare of eczema that you can use it instead if shower gel/soap which worked well when I couldn't bear anything else.
