Hi everyone. I have recently just come out of hospital after having a rash all over my body, swelling in my feet, ankles, knees, wrists, hands and neck. I only remember feeling slight flu like symptoms prior to been ill. To cut a long story short I've been diagnosed with reactive arthritis. I'm on steroids and naproxen which is working a treat but I'm so so tired.

I have 2 children and finding it so hard. I am walking with crutches and need some aids to help and trying to stay positive.

I have to go and see the consultant rheumatologist next week again. I'm just looking for other peoples experiences and reality. I know it affects everyone differently but I'm trying to educate myself and find support / share my experience in the hope it will help someone.

Hi @klcr07 welcome to the online community

You certainly have experienced a rapid onset and to then return home to care for two children whilst moving on crutches is a herculean task. We are glad you found us because we are here to offer you information and support.

Have you been in touch with your local community health team? They could maybe provide you with some short term care for you personally and aids in the home. There also could be an Arthritis group near you who can link you to local support or charities that could help with practical issues. [go to the "In your Area " tab above]

As for information I attach some links which I hope will be helpful

Many of us find it useful to either make a list of questions to take to a consultation or record a daily diary of how we are feeling both physically and emotionally. Ideally take some one with you to see the consultant so they can help remember what has been said.

Fatigue is one of the biggest concerns that affects those of us with arthritis, so try to listen to your body and rest when you need to because your body is fighting its own internal battle and needs time to regain its energies. So delegate tasks to your children, encourage them to join in with your daily exercise routine - let them choose the music , eat easily prepared healthy foods that they can help with. Most of all be kind to yourself you don't have to be "Superwoman" everyday!

Do let us know how you get on at your consultation next week. We will be thinking of you.

    Best wishes

    Hi Poppy Jane,

Thank you for all the helpful information and advice you have sent. It is a great help and good idea about writing a list for when I see the consultant.

I am very blessed in that I have some fantastic support from neighbours. My friends walking my children to school and my other neighbour is lending me their mobility scooter just so I can take my kids to the park as there's no way by I can walk or drive at present. But I know these things are temporary so your advice is great for considering more long term support.

    Thanks again.
