Feeling really down today. Many things are going on at the mo including waiting hear if my hubbie is going to be made redundant, the pin in my left hand has become infected and is so sore its untrue and I've been off work since Christmas. Just been trying to organise claiming some sort of benefit to help me as my SSP runs out at the end of may. I've been told that I can't claim anything as I haven't paid in enough NI.
I don't know what to do other than going back into work and becoming seriously ill again. Going back into hospital to have my pin dug out as its disappeared into my thumb. Thats the highlight of my week. :(

    hi Jenzie
Sorry you are having such a bad time of it. You certainly have a lot on your plate, worries for your hubby`s job, finances, health.... The added stress of it all can`t be helping either.
I hope your pin removal goes well and they are able to sort the infection. And I will keep my fingers crossed for your hubby`s job. It is a worrying time.
My hubby was in a similar position a couple of weeks ago, when 4 people at the firm he works for were made redundant with 1 days notice. We were obviously pleased my hubby didn`t get redundancy, as I have been off for 11months now, but the firm has cut the rate of pay for remaining staff by 20%. I am worried as my money stops at 12 months and I cannot claim anything other than ESA which is only £60 per week! I am seeing my bosses next week , but can`t tell them when I can go back until I see the surgeon again.
    sending you ((((((hugs)))))))

Hi. I am so sorry, so many people are in this position at the moment. I don't know much about benefits. The CAB would be able to help you I'm sure. Also, the Jobcentre have people who would know the system. They have Disability Advisors, who may be able to point you in the right direction. If you type in Jobcentre on you search engine on the computer, thats the way I found it.

I really hope everything turns out well for you and your partner. Perhaps he'll be OK, or maybe, even, another better job will come along.

In the last recession in the 1990s my husband came home from work one evening out of the blue and told me he had been made redundent. He worked as a scientist for Zenica (ICI). He got another job, though, after the shock he made his job, job hunting, phoning people he knew, visiting friends working in similar labs and seeing if they would let him know of any vacancies. In the end he got a 2 year contract to see us over and then moved on to teaching when his contract came to an end.

Sorry to go on telling stories of our past! Forgive me, good luck and my best love to you all. Sue

    Hi Jenzie

I'm so sorry to hear about your problems with everything at the moment. You have enough to put up with regarding your health, without the job worries hanging over you too. My son-in -law lost his job in Jan. and is trying very hard to get another, but no success as yet. I do hope things will gradually improve for you, and that your health problems are sorted out after you have been back in hospital.

    Hi Jen

Just wanted to add my good wishes to everyone else's messages.

Also to support what someone else said about getting advice re your benefits situation - the system is so complicated, and sometimes the people working in it don't know or care what the right answer is.

CABs are very busy at the moment (I wonder why?) so it might be a good idea to contact them sooner rather than later as there may be a wait before you can see / talk to an adviser.

Many years ago I used to be a hospital social worker and it's the sort of thing I used to deal with but I'm not sure if hospitals still have such people ???

Anyway, all the best and let us know how things are going on.

    Take care

    Wendy
