Are arthritis or back pain classed as a disability?

Hi

I was wondering if arthritis and severe long term back pain is recognised as a disability?

If so then how do they determine how bad you are to qualify?

Thanks

its how the condition affects your life, your care needs that they go on not the condition itself.
cab are the best to talk to or a welfare rights officer.
the mobility side is how far you can walk before your in pain etc. & the care side is for the help you need to live as normal life as possible with a disability.hope that helps.
arthritis is a disability but that in its self doesnt qualify you for dla.

    Hi
Like Debs has said if you are going to try for DLA get some advice, it's a minefield. If you don't use key words/phrases you will be turned down. Not sure if severe back pain is classed as a disability as it's hard to prove but arthritis is.

I agree it's best to get advice before filling in forms.

My son used to get dla and you had to fill in forms every 2 years it was accepted he would get it up to the age of 16 but when I sent the usual forms off at 14 for the last time he was refused as they said he did not have any more needs than another child.

I appealed and they overturned the decision but it is worth getting advice. Just the slightest phrase or answer can mean you don't get it or at least have to appeal. This doesn't seem fair the help should go to those who need it not those who are good at filling in forms.

    Hi
I can only echo the coments that others have made but do talk to the CAB before you do anything they are very helpfull and will help you with application if they think you can get it.
