Mobility Allowance and Terrified!

Does anyone else get paranoid about mobility? I was awarded it a couple of years ago now just after tkr in '06. Despite tkr I still have not regained full movement in knee and have to literally launch myself in and out of car which can be quite treacherous sometimes especially for any poor souls passing! My pain is daily due to shoulders, remaining knee, feet, hands and wrists so I hobble a lot and cannot do any kind of distance. My worry is that due to hands and wrists I cannot use sticks as putting pressure on hands would make me cry, a lot! It makes me mad because I couldn't do without my little car and I had to give up working in admin because of the pain, I am trying to retrain (at my own cost) in something I love art & design so that I can work from home and balance the hospital visits etc. Does anyone else feel like this or do I need professional help?? :?

Hi Mrs Dalloway, I hope people are not thinking "My God, she`s only been here five minutes and she`s got something to say about everything." It`s just that what you said was so heartfelt, and not unlike what I`ve heard before. I am a counsellor, although mostly retired now. When you`re anxiety levels are high, its not uncommon to focus on a particular problem, - in your case, the DLA - to the point of paranoia. It would certainly help to see a counsellor, or if you think it would help, please send me a private message, and I`ll be only too happy to chat with you..... Angel0

Hi Angel thanks I have sent you a pm. The stress thing sounds right as eldest child is driving me round the twist at the moment and the stress is making the pain worse.0

Hi I've never really thought about it before, but I'm the same. If I'm worried and stressed often its the one thing that seems to take over above everything else. Its the first thing you think of and the last thing before you go to sleep. Often that thing will sort out very easily or even goes away once I feel more positive.
I'm sure you won't lose your car, my neice had a motability car bought for her when she was able to drive. She used it to get to work and go out and about - she didn't have any aids for walking as her problem was a balance thing and she was dangerous with sticks!!! But she could walk reasonable distances. the only reason she gave up driving was her condition deterated. She still gets an allowance and a badge to use on other peoples cars when they take her out.
I hope all sorts out for you quickly. Love Sue0
