Hi
Just wondered if anyone else has been told that the nerves are shot. I've chronic oa in feet, and other places. After years of excruciating pain I've now been told that the nerves in my feet are shot. No explanation about what this means so I would welcome any advice. Still have the oa pain of course

Hi Vonski,
the pain clinic doctor explained that to me over what the one side jabs hurt so much more than the other. She said cus your so used to having the pain your brain somehow accentuates it all so it is more tender and feels more........ That's what I have the pregabalin for so maybe they'd help you as well? They block the pain receptors so you don't really feel it....... They do have side effects, though not always unpleasant...... and they may not mix with other meds but it may be worth you asking?

Hi Cris
Thanks for your reply. Do you get a lot of swelling too? It's still in my mind that they don't really know what's going on  I'll have to see what the pain clinic have to say. Is the pregablin? just for nerves?

Hi Vonski,
I recons its circulation that makes your feet swell and I do wish they'd actually help you....... My back swells if I have annoyed it, so does my neck if it isn't happy with me as well. They both work against each other but its soft tissue stuff and from your posts your feet aren't in the same way. My knees come up from time to time depending on what I have done to them. My hands are a bit swollen as are bits of my feet but thats why I had a load of blood tests.......... and why I get the drip.......
The pregabalin just rearranges how your brain responds to the pain..... It's good for nerve pain but it hasn't any anti flam qualities and I asume if it ain't nerve pain it's not so effective? It certainly gave me back a whole chunk of life I thought I'd lost for ever so I kinda in it's pro camp

Hi Vonski
I have been reading with interest the last few messsages regarding nerve ends. I have Psoriatic Arthritis, polymygeria rheumatica and spondylitis.
I was put on Pregabalin about two weeks ago when I went back to my drs (couldn't see my own gp). Had to see one who I didn't like much. Because I was almost collapsing with the pain and crying (something I don't usually do) Anyway, despite being on 52.5 mg Buprenorphine patches, they were not touching the pain in my arms shoulders and left side, these Pregabalin were dished out. The make me extremely drowsy and other things like bad head aches and cramps around the chest area.
They are similar to Gabapentin which I was on some months back and which caused me to become incontinent had to buy Tena ladys. terrible. Plus several other nasty side effect, my consultant at the hospital told me to come off them and start on pain patches, just 10 mg at first, but these didn't help the pain so |I went up to 20mg and now 52.5 and still no rest from the pain. I am going to a pain clinic on the 4th June. Just hope they can help me.
I have been going on now for several years since my RA was first diagnosed and was put on Methotrexate injections. Then you are given Folic Acid for the side affects. I think my Nerve Ends must be shot to pieces because they do not improve much and both arms feel extremely painful and fingers and hands like they have been in the fire and stinging nettles. Is this like you?
Keep your chin up
Nice chatting

Hi Cris and Joy
I still feel like it could be due to poor circulation but could that be from the swelling? I don't know, always told it was down to arthur then they changed their mind and said nerve damage. They then sent me for doppler test but don't know why he didn't check the bit that was red and swollen. I'm confused, not hard to do Pin my hopes on pain clinic again.
Joy Hi nice to meet you Yep I get the burning and stinging sensation. Sometimes feel like I'm being pricked with red hot needles. I cannot stand water on them either which is a bit odd. I don't like the sound of the side effects from your meds  Hope the pain clinic comes up with something, I'll let you know what he says. If you get any further please let me know. Are you as frustrated as me?

Hi Joy,
Sorry the Gabapentin did that to you. I hope it will sort its self out in time?
Keep trying with the pregabalin as you said on the other post you have only been on them a couple of weeks and the drowsiness is meant to get easier. I was lucky all they have ever done to me is make me trip and hallucinate as well as the odd nightmare. I can't take the full dose normally but at times I do as they are worth the side effects especially if I have to bend for a while.
Cus I can't do the top one what they tell me to do is the 75 2x a day and then the 150 at night. The pain clinic now tells me to do the 300 alternative nights.
I hope you do find the pain clinic of use, again for me it has helped to keep me having a chance to go on with my life, though she does moan at me a bit to say the least. Take care and nice to meet you by the way. Cris0
