hi all,im always asking queastions sorry.
this has just popped into my head.
2wks toda im due to have MRI scan as rhymy thinks i have a trapped nerve somewhere.
my question is when they do the scan r they just looking for trapped nerve or will they also be checking to see how far the oa has progressed? if thats the right way to put it but im sure you know what i mean.
the only experience ive had of MRI is when i had 1 for cancer back in 1996.so i dont really know if they check bones on scan or just the nerves.
hope ur all having a decent day.debsx

I had a scan as my GP thought I have a trapped nerve due to tingling sensation in lt arm and fingers. The scan will be able to pinpoint any problem you might have, not just scanning for trapped nerve. Your treatment will be determined according to the scan results. Mine showed I had two compressed discs & I am seeing the Physio in two weeks time. I am sure somebody with more experience will be able to explain it clearly to you.

hi maria48, thanx for ur reply.the rhymy couldnt move my legs any higher than i could lift them & they were really shaky.thats when he suggessed trapped nerve.
but i have numbness & tingling in back, ends of finger & base of feet.which indicates trapped nerve,i also get striking pains down the front of my shins(bottom of legs) when i walk & it nearly takes me off my feet.its like an electric shock through my bones & i get a kind of running feeling down my spine too. any1 else get this :?: could it all be related :?: debsx

Hi. I've had many over the years and everytime they have diagnosed everything in the bones and nerves. My latest in October gave me much more than I was expecting. They went through the images with me explaining and pointing out things and I was amazed at how detailed and clear they were.

The scan itself is not too bad. It can be a little claustrophobic but they give you music to listen to. You still hear the scan, it's like a pneumatic drill. If you feel discomfort they will give you a support pillow, let them know in advance and they will do small bursts of scans. They did this with me and were very patient. Telling me that this one will be longer, but shout if you want us to stop.

    Good luck, Eck x

    Hi,
I'v had a scan on my neck as the rhummy thought a trapped nerve, and at a later appointment he told me which disks have deteriorated and by how much and also how the nerve is compressed. I can't remember it all, I should have taken a notebook, as after a while the information about each disk slipped into one in my head! :) Love Sue

thanks for the replies,it sounds very thorough.
at least i'll know whats what when i finally get results.
i'll ask for the support pillow too as i was a bit worried about being able to lay flat for a while & keeping still.
thanks again i know i can rely on u  debsx
