Hi Everyone,
I have been getting income support for a while now, last week i had to fill in a form because it's up for review, well i sent the form back and this morning i had a letter from the dole to attend next week to see ''my personal adviser''! would'nt mind but most of these ''adviser's''are younger than me! i was applying for jobs before they were born!!
anyway.......they say it is to see if i am getting the right benefit and if they can give me anymore help in finding a job now or in the future,
i am 58, i have a thyroid problam, thyroid eye disease and OA in my knees and feet, i have appointments at the hospital for the thyroid and eyes and i am waiting for an appointment for physio on my knees.......who is going to employ me now?? i have a son of 32 who can't find a job so what chance have i got??
oh well.......i suppose the next step will be a medical and i hate going because they are so degrading, i just wish they would go by my report and my Drs report like they did last time.
I feel like screaming ''just leave me alone to get on with it''!!!!!!
i have enough worrys without them adding to it! go and get the ones who are swinging it!!!!
Sorry for the rant but it makes me feel better getting it off my chest.

Hi Chris,it's funny the mix of staff at the dole. When I was between jobs as I was looking after my mam whilst my dad recovered from a thr, one lady was very sympathetic but the week mam died and I was having to sign on this other woman wanted me to go for a job interview the day before the funeral.
Needless to say I was crying and upset at having to explain all this to a hard faced person. I refused and told them to keep their money and a few weeks later found myself another job.
Try not to stress yourself cos it doesn't help, easier said than done I know. Are you allowed to take someone with you for support?

Hi Chris,
It's about time they called in some of the non-genuine people - you really don't need this stress.
Hope it goes better than you're anticipating :?

Hi Chris It is ridiculous and I don't know why they cannot keep some sort of database that would inform them of our medical details. Lets face it, as much as I wish for one a cure isn't coming any time soon! Mind you the best one was my dad, who is registered blind and also has severe psioratic arthritis was called in for an interview and he actually went. He also wanted to know what jobs they had on offer for a 59 year old registered blind person! Needless to say there wasn't much on offer :roll:0

Hi, Yes, I'm just at the stage of form filling. The next stage will medical, I bet. Yet I've just been found unfit to work by the council for the next 12 years and my pension released! I am waiting for carpel tunnel surgery on both hands! OA in my lumber spine and a compressed nerve in my cervical spine which is too difficult a place to risk surgery at the moment, so I'm on strong pain relief. I do mind that I can't work but I also mind that I have to go through this yet again! Sorry, I'm getting carried away. Love Sue0

Hi Chris
Very frustrating but I agree with other people that you should try not to let it stress you too much (easier said than done, I know). Take any 'evidence' about your medical conditions with you, be very clear about the ways they affect you and don't let them get under your skin. Can you take someone with you for support?
Good luck

Thanks for your replys, it really does help to have someone to talk to.
Yes i can take someone with me.
I am really fed up of everything at the moment, let me explain.......last year i lost my brother to bone cancer, he was only 58 and i thought the world of him, his anniversary is next month, so it's on my mind a lot, in January this year my mum ended up in hospital with a fractured ankle, she broke it in 3 places, she was in hospital 3mths, now she is in a rehabillitation centre because the hospital can't give her the physio that she needs to get her walking again, she is nearly 80 but a young 80, well......for 4mths now i have been up and down to the hospital and rehab, looking after her bungalow...she lives near me......getting her bits of shopping and taking it to her, doing her washing and ironing.......then i get this letter this morning and i thought ''what next!!''
I have all my hospital appointments so i will be taking them with me.
Well i had a good cry before, everything just got on top of me, i am coming to terms with my brothers death but i still miss him and at times like this i know he would of been there for me and would of supported me.
I feel worn at times with all the running about i have to do, and people i meet are always asking how mum is, and i feel like saying ''if you want to know why don't you go and see her!''......these are her so called friends! the odd few might ask how i am...but not many!! now they're asking ''is she home yet!!'' i just say 'no,not yet!'' my son said he dreads going out of the house incase someone stops and asks him!!
well 've had my rant......

Aw gawd I know how you feel. When all this started I had to go & sign on every other week; although they said as I had sick notes I didn't have to job search.
This went on for almost 2 years before it was decreed I was on the wrong benefit!
Just go, grit your teeth - you never know - maybe there is something they can help with? Best wishes Mx0 -

That's terrible! heartless b****!!
I'm trying not to get stressed, but i will have a few words to say to them next week......like....who is going to employ me at my age with a health condition and with all the hospital appointments i have?
I know for a fact that once you put your date of birth on a job application you never hear from them!

Hi,
well.....i phoned the dole this morning and asked if they were calling me in to look for a job, they said no it's to see if they can give me anymore help, and help with jobs in the future, i asked if they knew what i had? they only had the thyroid problam on their records, so i told them i also had thyroid eye disease and OA in my knees and feet and that i have 3 appointments at the hospital in 3 different departments, and with that they said they would waver this appointment for the time being now that they have more info, they are going to send me a leaflet on other benefits i might be able to claim...like DLA.....if i am having problams getting around, i am finding it difficult gettting on and off bus's, it's a relief i don't have to go now!!

So glad you have been spared, and it seems we have maligned the dole.
Hope things get sorted with your mum soon as it's mentally exhausting as well as physically.

Well done Glo

I was medically discharged from work yesterday, it was a really hard decision (which was made for me, thanks arthur) especially as I am only 26yrs old. Now it looks extremely likely that my new hubbie (we got married in march) will be made redundant on friday.
It never rains does it?!
I'm just dreading the forms we will both have to fill out!!!0 -
I know, I'm going through all that now as I'm being medically retired from the council. The Occy health doc and the independant doctor both agreed, I'm 54, they said no other form of work was suitable, and have released full pension, but I still have to go through the Jobcentres medical and see if I qualify - seems like they don't believe all the other medical information! Mad. Still never mind, it gives someone a job! :? Love Sue0
