Have been to the hospital today having finally decided to go through with the toe fusion that we discussed in January only for them to do a u-turn and say they don't want to do it yet, there's still too much movement in it, go away and come back in 6 months. Why have I spent 4 months deciding whether or not to have it done if they weren't sure? What's the point
Josie

    Hi Josie
It must have been so disappointing to have finally made up your mind to do something and then find that the decision has been made for you. Are they definitely going to do it when you go back or is it a question of wait and see? If they are then at least you will be VERY well prepared!!
    Real sorry though

Nope, just said will review it again! I understand what he was saying and it's good that he's not doing things unless they're necessary, but they should have said that last time then I wouldn't have gone with this expectation. There is nothing else he can do to manage it now and its still painful to walk even with orthotics, etc but he said he can still wiggle it it has too much movement, despite it not moving at all when I actually walk on it. He said he doesn't want me to come back in a year and be unhappy with it cos its irreversible so won't do it

    I'm feeling confused here :?

What I don't understand is that if you have a toe fusion it's to STOP it moving and set it in a good position and alleviate the pain 'cos it doesn't move anymore....... so how can it be moving too much? :?

If it doesn't move when you walk is it fusing itself or is that due to inflammation Josie?

I could understand it more if he wanted to see if it was going to settle down on it's own

.... why oh why make you decide and then tell you 'no'

................ think I'm going to lose sleep over this one :| unless someone explains to me.

Sorry if not clear - he said cos joint can be manipulated there is still movement in it, even though you have to get hold of it and physically move it - if I just wriggle my toes it doesn't move and if I'm walking I've got no upward bend to 'push off' if you see what I mean. They are two different things as far as I'm concerned, whatever he says. There are bons spurs around the joint which are interfering with movement, but he won't remove them because he says they'll just come back. As far as I know there is inflammation in the joint, it is enlarged

    Hi Josie,

I am sorry it didn't go as you had hoped. these people have no idea how much they can crush a person who is geared up to be helped eh? I hope in time he will be more helpful for you, or maybe you could see a different one?
    Take care, Cris x
