Ater seeing rheumy in April went to see reheumy nurse and have been started on sulfasazine 500 mg a day and rising to 500mg x 4 by week 4 i must manage to recall taking this process right as well as being on mtx which is not working so well I began taking it today any any thing to say advice about sulfa
I was on planequil with co-dyd for years and it was good regime but got side effects now some of my bloods results are bad including my liver which is 91 quite a bit above normal so that will be kept an eye on as i will have to keep up with my regular bloods. I am always nervous about new meds as to wherether i will read side effects etc and restating ones ive had before if this does not work in time before i see rehumy again in Dec could be back to drawing board still waiting for neck inections

Hi Chrisov
Hope your new meds give good relief with little side effects. I now what you mean about starting anything new the side effects can be worrying. Can you set an alarm to remind you?
Hope you are feeling much brighter now.

Hi Chrisov,
I was on sulphasalazine for many years but it was prescribed differently in the old days 'cos I took one a day - I eventually came out in a body rash so it was stopped.
When I first started on Mtx I made myself a weekly chart on the PC, just a simple thing with the date I had to take the drug and the doseage, with it being an escalating dose, then I left room for a tick at the side so I knew whether I'd taken it or not and what dose I'd had.
Hope it's effective and that you start to enjoy the benefits of taking it.

Hi all and yes Legs the old sulpha was not so good apptnlly todays stuff is coated and it is supposed to be better well I will see on that one my rheumy nurse said dont bite it swallow it as if i would make the coating less effective as if I was a silly boy she must know me he he.
the last time I got a body rash and the anti malarial hydro one affected my eyes. the alarm idea and the chart are good ideas I was reminded that having my bloods done reguraly is my responsibilty she threatned taking me off sulpha if I do not keep a record what joys I wonder why I bother just let arthur win still forget the side effects give it a go0 -
Hello Chrisov,
Such a relief to see you posting. It seems like ages. I and a few others were beginning to worry about you. You have been missed big time.
I really hope the new meds work for you and you have had good suggestions as to how to remember what and when you have to take it.
You know you can always post any questions on here about the sulpha and you can guarantee a flurry of replies.
Let's hope you hear something soon about your neck injections.
Love

Hey Chrisov,
Come on! Let arthur win? Don't go thinking like that, it will only bring you down again. Its a daily struggle but you have to fight and make the best of it, as do we all
So, come on, keep fighting man

HI Chrisov
How are you feeling today?
Are you on MTX along with the Sulphasalazine?
I had Sulpha 2000gms a day as my first line drug about 11 yrs ago
and have had combinations including Hydroxochloroquine,
Sulpha and MTX. Unfortunately Sulpha didnt work for me.
For the last few years the DMARD's I have been on are Leflunomide (Arava) 6 days a week and MTX on the 7th day.
Hope all goes well with it for you.

Hi Noeltone,
Not sure i can offer much advice really except to say that i am also on the sulfalazine and have been for 8 weeks (4 weeks building dose up to 2000mg and 4 weeks at the 2000mg strength). For me the side effects have not been a problem- a very slight headache if anything but goes as quick as it arrived. I think the key is to drink water more frequently during the day to reduce any headaches :x that works for me. As for keeping the arthur under control i feel the sulfa has really helped (though still room for improvement) as i'm so much more mobile. The morning stiffness has almost gone . A glowing report for sulfa so far and i do hope you respond well too. Good luck and take care.

Hi all I am taking Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine as iits supposed to be effective overall in conjunction with methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine as part of a regimen of “triple therapy” but I cant get on with hydro anymore so I am on the two taking mtx as per usual one 20mg a week sulpha intriuduced as say i have had inadequate response to methotrexate alone i think theyre just experimenting but thats all they can do i guess .0
