Hi
Ive had RA for over a year now. Am currently on Suplha. My fingers have started to move and I am worried that this will be permenant, they now resemble the "classic" symptoms of RA!! Woop Woop lucky me. I also have a problem with my right hip. Now im by no means a small lady but have been loosing weight and compared to the pain i was in at xmas and to now is incredible, loosing weight definitly helps. But my right hip clicks sooo badly that it causes me so much pain, i wonder if it is going out of its socket and then going in again.
I am seeing the rhuemy nurse tomorrow and was wondering if anyone eles has had this sort of thing?
Thanks
Gemma

Hi I don't understand your question, what do you mean your fingers move? surely thats a good thing, or do you mean they are moving out to the side? if the latter is the case, mine have began doing that, but I have been informed I can have new knuckles so they can straighten my hands a little, but personally, as long as I can use them I won't have surgery. As or being a big lady, thats me, I have hip problems, but am trying to lose weight hoping that will help it, speak with your rheumy, and write down all your problems, cos if your ought like me, you will have forgot all the things you meant to mention as it takes that long to see them. Good luck keep smiling xxx0

thanks for the fast reply!
i meant that my middle fingers from the top joint are bending to the right and my ring fingers are bowing aswell.
Loosing weight has definitly helped with the ongoing pain and stiffness in my hips, it just this blasted cracking that feelslike its coming out of its socket and going back in!
well definitly write down all i want to ask, havent done that before!
Ta!

Hello, yes it does sound like the RA drift that people get. I believe they can operate but I'm not sure.
I have OA and my finger joints swell and become painful - they also have lumps and bumps on them I can't bend them as much as I would like either. One has a tendency to bend forward when my hand is staight. Its wierd, because I don't feel any movement but it curls up slowly. Love Sue0 -
Hi Gemma I know what you mean my latest flare up ended a few weeks ago after 18 months of pain and I was terrified that my hands were going to drift. I am now on anti tnf and fingers xd ( at least I can do that now! lol) they caught them in time and have eased off a little. Regarding your hip that sounds like my knee it wouldn't straighten and when walking on it would come out of position the pain was horrific. When you go to rheumy nurse ask about some one x-raying it and don't take no for an answer. They left my leg for 18 months bent and even after a tkr I still have not got full range of movement in it. Good luck!0

Hello Gemma Glad to hear the pain is not as bad as it was. I'm affraid the bent fingers go with the RA i have the bent toes to match them. Surgery depends on the amount of pain your in and how much use you have in your fingers. I was turned down for surgery because i said it wasent just the pain but the way my hands look all mine are out of shape and thumbs as well. The answer i got is we do not do cosmetic surgery. hope things go well with the rheumy

Hi Colin, That sounds like a cop out. If your fingers drift because of an illness, its not cosmetic in my book, the bent fingers can cause lots of problems with using your hands, I used to cut up food for a lady because she couldn't hold a knife properly and that was RA drift. She was in her late 80s and so didn't want surgery, but the rhummy nurse mentioned it. Sorry I'm off again. Love Sue0

Hi
thanks for the replies.
Rheumy nurse said: Hands were definitly a classic sign of RA, she said that they would keep an eye on it over the next couple of months, new xrays!
with my hip she thinks it may be because I have started exercising regularly and loosing weight. She said it may be a strain or the muscles firming up! She said if it continues for more than a couple more weeks then give her and ring and she will send for xrays and see what happens!
thanks alot
