Hi, I will be brief.Went for my long delayed and awaited THR today. Had all the tests, docs came and marked my leg, then they found a water infection. Checked my pre op results and I had a slight water infection then and it was not acted upon. I have no symptoms. As a result the docs wouldnt do the op, I was sent home with anti biotics and have to see my GP next week to sort it. I have been in bed under the duvet since I came home. I have lost faith in the NHS

God no wonder you're under the duvet. I'm so sorry you've been through all that AND you ain't got your new knee.
Know what you mean about confidence in hospitals - do they really know what situations like that do to patients? OR has all the compassion gone from our hospitals and we are all just hospital fodder!
Hope you get something sorted soon .... keep your chin up.
    Hugs

    Hi

Oh no not again, I feel frustrated for you. Why didn't they sort out your water works when they first heard about the problem? All I can say is I hope it's not a long wait until your next chance.

    Love

Ahhhhhh JK, I'm so sorry :( You were all prepared for it as well, I really sympathise. Try not to lose faith in the NHS if you'd have had it done with an infection in your body it could have affected your new hip and then you'd have been in a right mess.

Hope your GP clears it up for you very, very soon so that you can get back on track again.

    Here's a cyber hug (((((())))))

    Take care.

    Luv Legs :(

I am so sorry to hear your news. Likewise I would have been gutted. Considering something could have been done about it when it was first noticed at your pre op assessment. I hope they take that on board and get you back on track and find a bed for you asap. I think you can feel quite justified in badgering them to do your op as soon as you are free of infection. It was their error after all.

Any excuse that is given why an op cannot go ahead is awful, ie surgeon unwell, not enough staff, no spare bed because of an emergency patient, but a water infection they knew about is particularly upsetting, as something could have been done to sort it in time.

    Chin up,

    Luv

    Hi There
Thats dreadful. What an anticlimax!! You have to get yourself so psyched up for surgery apart from making all the necessary arrangements to be in hospital. You must be so very disappointed. Its as well they didnt do it though with an infection. Hope the next date comes along soon

Away no, how disappointing for you especially as it had been noted at pre op and not treated. I can understand them
not operating in the presence of infection because of risk to the hip site and long term outcomes. It's the emotional upheaval as well though isn ' t it?Lets hope it's caused by something that will respond quickly to antibiotics. Hope a new date is not far away

I ignored your post at first as I thought it was an old one that had been brought to the top, then when I read it properly I couldn't believe they could do that to you again
I have been thinking of you today and thought well it's all over now time to recover. What an awful cock up no wonder you're under your duvet.
Fingers crossed that next time it will be third time lucky.

    Hi Jk
I am so sorry that you have been delayed again. My pre op found a UTI and I was given antibiotics and then had to provide a clear sample before they would give me a date. I had no symptoms either. As someone has said, it is better to ensure there are no infection risk factors for your new hip, but shame on them for not acting on the results in the first place.
I missed you post yesterday, and was thinking about you this morning thinking you were done now. I am really sorry that they have put you through this awful experience. I hope they provide you with a new date as soon as you are clear.
    (((((((hugs))))))))

I am so sorry to hear you've had your operation postponed. Especially when it is something they could have sorted out before you got so far. I hope your infection responds well to the antibiotics and you get a new date soon. I'd ring them next week and find out when it's likely to be.
    big hugs

Aw sorry Ikesother, that's a pain. Don't let it get you down too much, just take the pills to get rid of the infection and nag them for a new date as soon as poss. And everybody will keep their fingers crossed for you until you get it! :) (do you know how difficult it is to type with crossed fingers?!)

Hi, What an awful shame! :( To get so far down the line and then a silly water infection lets you down. Its a shame, in a way, it was'nt painful (not wishing you more pain), but then you may have been able to get treatment before this. Still, I hope your antibiotics work and you soon get a new date. Love Sue

    Hi jk
The NHS are useless at follow ups, I dont know why they have pre ops they never seem to have any results when its time for the op, when my husband had his op there was no results at all from the pre op, so the nurse just asked some questions he could have had anything and they wouldnt have known about it. Sorry if I carry on about the NHS I will never stop.............................................
I am soooo sorry for you but you will have to keep on and on at them to give another date ASAP it is so unfair on you to keep you waiting again.
Let us all know whats happening.
    and good luck
    Denise.

so sorry for you .... but like others said, it is best that having found the infection on the op day that they didn't take the risk - although I can understand you would want them to!

As to the pre-op stuff ...... unbelievable!!!!!!

sending hugs and hoping for a new date for you soon.

When my hubby had his op cancelled twice we got the impression that there were govt targets that suggested that no-one should have their op cancelled more than twice, and he was put to the top of the list. maybe this will be for you too???
