Hi Joyous
I know my back always is worse at that time. It is due in part to pelvic congestion causing extra pressure and hence pain. I imagine it could be a similar problem with your joints. The hormones associated with our menstrual cycle also effect our water balance and retention, so maybe you could try one of those herbal OTC tablets and see if they give you any relief.

hi
this topic comes up alot, there are alot of lady on the forum who suffer more due to that time of month, me being one of them.
if you go back through old posts you will find them.
to be honest am fed up with it mainly because my hips flare up most and this can carry on for some time after my period has ended just an added bonus to everything else i guess.
so your not alone

Well, I've not had a period since getting RA because I have been breastfeeding the whole time, but I know hormones are related. I expect my symptoms to ease considerabley when (if) my son ever allows me to STOP!
Prostaglandins (which I think play a role in both breastfeeding and your menstural cycle) are pro-inflammatory. So inflammation in your body in general would be worse when you have high amounts of these in your body.
Only thing I can suggest is evening primrose oil to help balance your hormones better (apprently it works with normal PMT so I suppose it would be the same with the joints) OR if it really affecting you badly would you consider taking a contraceptive pill? This would ease any symptoms you have related to your menstural cycle completely.
Although if you do decide to go on it and you have to pay for prescriptions it's best to pretend to the doctor that you are using it as contraception so you can get it for free

Yes yes and yes. My toes get huge about a week before and I get the purple blisters on the ends of my toes too. It always seems to be around that time of the month. I have arthritisi in my lower bck and hips and my the pain is intensified so much I think because I get quite bloated too which doesn t help!

Me too, nightmare on top of a nightmare eh!!!! I have RA, ............although I find a daily supplement of Vit B complex and 1000mg of evening primrose and 15mg of iron helps immensely. HTH Tam xxxxEnergy is eternal delight.
