Collected new prescription yesterday and am so annoyed by the manufacturers packaging.
Trying to pop the capsules out of the Omeprazole packaging was a nightmare. Considering I take these for the problems I get with arthritis tablets you'd think they would consider the packaging a bit more. I could not push the sapsules through the packaging and had to resort to scissors which are no the easiest to manage with stiff hands and fingers first thing in the morning!!!
I have now had a family member cut open all the tablets ready for me take.
Just a little rant!

    Hi there
Do you know I think omeprazole are actually one of the worst!! I dont take them now but i had to use scissors too. The ones that really get me now are the line up..squeeze and push down!! With arthritis? How??

    Hi Bailey,

With any sort of packaging I just consider scissors an extension to my fingers - ever seen the film Edward Scissorhands - he's be pretty useful to have around

    Luv Legs

PS I detest those little packets of sugar they give you nowadays when you go out for a coffee/tea - I even carry a small pair of scissors in my handbag - do you think I could get done for carrying an offensive weapon :?

Hi Bailey,I'm also taking Omerprazole and have been finding it difficult to pop the capsuals out of the blister pack. :x Now I've ended up using scissors to cut open the pack.I thought it was only me who had difficulty with them.Because of hand pain opening those child proof bottles such as bleach, loo cleaner etc. has become a real chore.Even opening plastic milk containers for the first time has become difficult. HI to fellow Omeprozole strugglers

I struggled with my new packs and gave it
up as a bad job, even took one strip back to
the pharmacy and asked why they were so
    hard to get into.

She simply peeled the corner of the whole
block of 7 and away came the backing
    I felt a bit of a fool.

Yes, the backing sheet comes right off.

I said, oh, would be good if I had half a brain at least
    wouldnt it.

Maybe you have the same packs as me,
are the tablets small yellow ones instead of the
two tone pink and green I think they were
    previously.

Oh great thanks for that! I'll see if I can peel it off next time.

Yes, I also have problem with opening screw top orange juice cartons especially, I cant seem to find the strength to break the safety bit but cant use the regualr ones as I find that in the mornings my fingers are so stiff they react a second or two after my brain tells tem to move and I end up with spillages!!!

When I was at work - about a year 18 months ago - I started having trouble with the blister packed medication and then the lids on the childproof bottles, and I started moaning to other carers about the packaging being worsed than it used to. Then I felt as if someone had put my left hand in a vice or bashed to with a hammer and I blamed one of our elderly chaps who liked to squeeze my hands, but then I realized that actually it was ME that had the problems.

The begining of hand arthritis and carpel tunnel had started. It makes me blush to think of all the moaning and groaning about how things have changed. Although, the blister packs are awful for anyone, especially when you manage to open the darn thing and a little pill pings accross the room or distigrates into powder........Sorry, I really must stop going on. :) Love Sue

    Hi

Years ago, probably when the child proof bottles came in my mom was on tablets for arthritis and couldn't open the bottles as she had no grip.

I was probably about 8 at the time and she had to get me to open them for her.

She asked for bottles with normal caps but they wouldn't let her have them for safety reasons even though she explained that the childproofing wasn't working as I could get the things open but not her.

I know how she felt now though as I have the same problems.

I was prescribed Co-Amoxiclav the other day (anti-biotics for an infection). Now these pills are not made for poorly fingers. Firstly, there's the traditional box, not usually a problem. Second, is a plastic packaging around each strip of pills, which I couldn't get into for love nor money and last but not least is the strip of pills itself with the usual problems.

All impossible on a normal day but then combine it with post-op plastercast from elbow to finger tips!

With these blister packs, push down at one end they will usually pop out whole. I went through a period of breaking the capsules until I learnt to do this.
I carry a small penknife thats easy to open, ideal for dealing with packaging, don't suppose Mr Plod will say that when he sees it!
    8) Its a grin, honest!

    Hi Breane

You checked to see if there isnt one
of the corners on the back thats a bit sticky outy
like those tiny milk things you get in
cafes. If not then yours isnt the
new fangled pack, and yes I think
my other kind of Omeprozole were
blue and some other colour, not pink.

    Oh, thats a shame then.
    Sorry about that.

Hi again Kathbee,I've had another look at my Omeprazole blister pack and there is no tab,the backing is foil so perhaps mine must be old packaging. :? Tablets themselves can be confusing,I take Naprosyn which is the same as Naproxen and Sopadol which is the same as co- codamol. All these medicines are a real pain.(forgive the pun!). Breane. :)

Breane you are so right, pain without the tabs
    pain with them sometimes.

Hope you are doing ok today though, if thats
    at all possible.

I thought I would be clever and went for a wander
around M & S, its all flat, no steps, thought it would
be nice and relaxing. When my hubby came to pick
me up, could hardly lift my legs to get into the car
and then when I got home, had to sit for an hour after taking painkillers
before I could think about starting to cook our meal.

Was it worth it - not sure, but I will keep trying otherwise
    might seize up altogether.

Hi Kath,After all the trouble in trying to get the Omeprazole out of the blister pack,I went to the chemist today and bought one of those pill boxes which holds a weeks supply of tablets. :) Have cut the packs and now got all meds in this pill box which will be more handy to use.Four different compartments for each day of the week(morn, noon, eve and bed). When I get my first appointment with the rheumy in June,no doubt he will change all the meds anyway but I still may end up having to take the Omeprazole.Rotten day today,my hands are so stiff and sore it took an age just getting dressed.Just looking forward to my appointment and hoping I will be prescribed better pain relief.Hope you are having a good day. He everyone.

I think all packaging is a pain. I have the same experience with my Omaprozole, foil wrapped and bottle. Thank goodness for OH. Goodness knows what I would do if I lived on my own. Oh I know, I will get the chemist to sort out all my tablets into a cassette thing. I've got one at the moment which I fill up each week, so I make OH sit down with me and help me with the piles of boxes.
Pred, Doxozosine, Omeprozole, Folic Acid, pain killers, etc etc and etc. I hate having to rely on OH to open everything. I even find it painful changing TV channels.

Losing my independence very quickly these days.

Then there is the food packaging, bottles and jars. My fingers feel like they have been in the fire at the moment and very sore and stiff. This typing is very painful. If it wasn't so painful, I would write off to all the manufacturers. Have a good moan. I think they got fed up with me when I was at work for moaning about something or other. Do you think it would make any difference?

    good luck everyone

    Joyful
