cramp in hands and fingers

Hi
I've had a very bad few days, sleepless nights ,
I am getting very bad cramp in my hands and fingers. Every time I hold a knife or fork or try to read a newspaper, have a drink ect my fingers that are ok are now getting cramped up.
It is quite frightening sometimes, they twist and cross over one another like the ring finger goes over the pinkie one ect. The cramp then gets worse in the palm of my hands, goes to the wrist, then the shoulder.
There is nothing I can do, even though Ive dropped whatever I had in my hands, which I've tried to put in warm water. This does not help.I have to wait until it goes. I also start sweating really badly.
Does anybody get this at all, or any idea's

Hi Trisher
Sorry to hear your suffering a bit I get the same thing RA and PA by the way. I get it in my thighs as well and some times in my feet, it can be quite painful and scary the way your hands change shape. I try to push them back into shape but it hurts and some times seems to take ages to go. The thing to do is relax as much as you can but thats hard when the pain is ripping through you. Talk to your Rheumy or GP they may be able to help with medication. I have told the rheumy about mine but dont want any more meds than i already have. Take Care

Hi Colin
Sorry that you have been under the weather. It is painful and scary you think it wo'nt go off. I wondered what I had done the first time it happend. I've got a bit more used to it now I've had it several times but it still hurts.
I will tell Rheumy I have to go there next week. I do'nt really want to have to take more drugs I take enough as it is.
Take care

Hi
I also get that in my lower back on the left hadn side. It cramps up and I can't move an inch.
When it stops it is such a relief but I then find that the muscles wich cramp up feel like I have stressed them and they ache for a few days.
I always wonder what causes this, my GP says it is where there is inflammation int he joint it presses on the nerves which give out unusual signals.
Hope you feel better soon0 -
Hi, I'v got OA and carpel tunnel, I get a lot of pains and funny feeling in my hands, I also drop things a lot, if I hold a glass I have to be careful as I'v spilt quite a few. I also have a trapped nerve in my neck, which causes funny sensations!
Have you seen you GP or rhuemmy, they may be able to help you.

I can relate to what you say, I suffer from OA & PA & when I get the spasms the only thing to be done is to relax as much as possible. I must admit though after the spasm occasionally I have to take pain medication as it can set off the inflammation I get.0 -
hi, i to have terrible problems with my hands, i was always dropping things as i lost my grip, very upsetting and frustrating.
i now use special cutlery, it has thicker handles which helps with gripping and it's also angled, so you don't have to do so much hand wrist movement when eating, this helped me so much!
i have a chunky tin opener and potato peeler to as i said my grip is weak and my hands weak and painful, these utensils really help.
i use plastic cups to drink from as i can't break them and they are lightr!
also i pick mugs that have bigger handles again this helps.
sorry i can't offer much advice but little things can really help.

Hi Suzster
I will enquire about knives and forks and other usefl information you have given me. I have to transfer into a wheelchair and bed ect it is so inportant that I do'nt loose all the grip I have, I nearly went on the floor a couple of days ago.Thank you for your reply.

Hi trisher
i dont think its the same thing you have, but i have promlems with my hands and in feb i had injections into my hand as couldnt move my thumb and my middle finger kept getting "stuck" and would hurt like mad in the plam of my hand for few mins then ease off.
my finger is fine at mo injection realy helped, thumb moves better some days than others. dont know but may be this injection may help you, but as i said may not be same thing.
was you saying awhile ago you might be having hand surgery? sorry if im mistaken i sometimes mix people up
hope you get it sorted.
