Hello,
I'm going to the plastic surgeons clinic today to see about having surgery for my carpel tunnel. The last week or so its been quite bad and I've got fed up with dropping things and spending the night dosing and waking with pins and needles and wrist pain in both hands. My left one feels worse but the electro thingy test showed my right one is the bad one. When I wake up in the night, the tingling is like a sort of itch that you can't scratch and this morning my arms were red  so I must have been doing it in my sleep as well :? I don't like the idea of surgery, but I want it to get a bit better. I'm a whimp, thats the trouble
 :? :)
Hey, but I'm lucky really, my neices husband is going into hospital for major bowel surgery at the end of the week, for cancer, and my neice relies on him as shes very disabled. It puts my little troubles into perspective. So, I must really count my blessings and stop moaning on. :) Sorry.
Love Sue

    Hi Sue

First of all, you're not moaning, you're sharing your troubles with us. I do feel for your neice and her husband, but they would probably be the first to tell you that just because they are going through a rough time, that doesn't mean you're not entitled to support and care too!

I used to have carpel tunnel syndrome for brief periods after my girls were born and I really do sympathise with you because it IS so painful. Thankfully, mine went away with medication and I haven't had it for a while (I actually thought it was back earlier this year but it turns out it was RA!) but I know someone who's had an operation for it and it's been a success.

So I hope it all goes well for you.

    Hi Sue,

I really do hope that it all goes well for your niece's husband.

Your neither moaning on nor a wimp, your entitled to be a bit apprehensive but I am sure it will all go well and you will have hands that do what hands should do again.

Fingers crossed you have good news and don't forget to take your questions with you so you know all thats going to be there for you. Take care, Luv Cris xx

    Hi Sue,

You're not a wimp - everyone feels nervous about any invasion into their body - we're all scared really.

Your plastic surgeon will probably help you to feel more confident and think of the end result if you can have hands that you can forget about again and not always be aware they're there 'cos thery're hurting and tingling.

    Hope it goes well today.

    Luv Legs :D

Hello, I'm back from the hospital, after a 2 hour wait :x But it was worth the wait, the plastic surgeon was very nice and is going to release the nerve in my left wrist/hand and see if that makes any difference to the pain as that is the worst hand. I may need my ulner (elbow) nerve done at a later date, according to the amount of pain left. Hopefully, just the median nerve will do. :) The other hand will be done if I need it, later, but if my left hand is free it may help the arthur in the other hand. He may may look again at the neck nerve, but says that is a bigger thing and may best be left.

He was so nice and explained things, even though his clinic was running so late, and he was very appologetic. We saw him called away to the treatment room with the other consultant. So someone had a big problem, I suppose. Anyway it was worth the wait. He was totally different from the rheummy, who was really not good. Anyway I was nervous, and will be again :) but, feel confident in the treatment I had. He said that RA could be a cause as well, but this procedure will show that and the op will help show that???? I may need other hand surgery for the arther but hopefully not. I feel glad I went, and was treated like an intelligent person (Well, he can't always be right! :? ) Love Sue

    Hi Sue
Glad your appointment went well. Its amazing how much it helps when the doctor talks to you properly and explains things isnt it, and it is in each of their power to be able to do that at the very least, so its a shame your rheumy doesnt as well. I know quite a few people who have had the op ranging from a very elderly man to my vet. All were very pleased with the results, and the vet was back to delivering cows not too long afterwards!!)
Its natural to feel apprehensive though. I am always really scared whenever I go anywhere near a hospital and I spent half my life working in them!
