Hi everyone,
Firstly i apologise for the massive rant about to come your way, i need to vent and not sure where else i can !
I've been waiting for a hip replacement since January and was all set to have it at the end of this month.
However the hospital (private, doing it on the NHS) have decided im too complicated for them (I have avascualr necrosis in addition to the OA and my hip jpint has collapsed) and would 'ruin their figures'
As a result im now being changed to a NHS hospital (which is fine) with the same consultatn but am now back at the bottom of a waiting list.
I've been off work for the past 7 weeks and am not allowed back until after the surg which is driving me mad. I'm also so limited in what i can do - making a cup of tea and carrying it the sofa is so painful.
Really feeling down and all i have done today is sit and cry not sure if i can hack another waiting list, i feel like my life is on hold and just want some of it back
Sorry for the moan

Hi Miss l
Poor you
I haven't got anything to say to help except I would be crying too This is awful and must be so distressing.
Do you know how long the waiting list is? can you find out? are you in any postion to offer to take a cancellation at short notice? could you suggest that?
I so hope the time passes quickly for you

Hi Miss I
Sorry you're having problems seeing a doctor, is there no chance you could see another doctor, at our surgery you never seem to get the same doctor twice which has its good and bad points, but I know that as soon as I mention I have RA and that I'm on MTX they get me in the same day - guess I must be very lucky in my area.

Hi Miss I,
I can't say anything to help except maybe they will get you in quicker than you think. Sending you a cyber ((( ))) and hope it will be quicker than you think.
Take care,
Cris0 -
Hello, I'm sorry, but hopefully the list won't be too long. Being in pain and unable to do anything is so horrible for you, I send you the best of good wishes and luck with the waiting list. Love Sue.0

Hello Miss

I hope they get you sorted out soon, can you not give the surgeons sec a call and hav a chat with her or ask your doctor to try and rush it through. Take care and keep your cin up

Hello.
I'm sending you a really super huge BIG cyberhug and hope it'll help you in your time of need.
I think it so very unfair that, having been re-referred back to your original Consultant, you may have to go to the bottom of the waiting list again.I would argue its not your fault that the private hospital won't provide you with the treatment you deserve. If anything, this private hospital shouldn't have even undertaken to do this operation knowing your medical history.
The fact they 'bottled out' and referred you back to the NHS isn't your fault.I would write to the Consultant in charge of your case, outlining all the problems and grievances you've mentioned in this thread, and get him/her to sort out the problems the hospital have created for you,and explain to you what your 'rights' are in terms of your position on the waiting list.I did this with my late Mum back in 2001 and got a sympathetic hearing and went to the top of the waiting list.
You are not just a 'number' or name on some puerile waiting list thats for sure. You are a Human Being. You have rights to good health which, currently, neither the NHS,your Consultant, nor this so-called 'private' hospital aren't providing. Just because all around you don't have a clue what's going on,doesn't mean you should suffer for their general incompetences. I would make a point of getting a trusted friend to write a letter with you for you to send off to the Consultant. Just state your case and all what has gone previously, and what the current situation is and how much pain you're in,and what the future will hold for you if you don't get the operation you need.
Don't let the NHS wear you down and good luck for the future.I do hope all will be resolved soon.
Ending off with a gentle cyber-hug just for you!miss_l wrote:Hi everyone,

Hi
I was seen on NHS at private hospital initially, and like you was told they could not do my op there as mine was too complicated re dysplasia and needing bone graft. It is really frustrating when you think you are getting somewhere, only to be back at square one again!! I couldn`t be seen by original surgeon at local hospital either, for same reasons, and had to be referred to a completely different surgeon and hospital.
Just a thought though, if all of this is NHS, how do you stand with 18 week rule? Especially if it is the same surgeon. I would enquire with the surgeons secretary re this.
I am so sorry you are suffering like this and hope that you can sort something soon. xx

Thats just awful,
I would be writing to the Chief Executive of the
hospital concerned for sure.

Hi, I sympathise! Im currently waiting for my THR, having had the first op cancelled by hospital and then last week, I was actually in hospital to go for op and they found i had a water infection that wasnt picked up on at my pre op, so I was sent home ahhhhhhhhhh! As it stands, as soon as the hospital have it in writing Im clear, Im off to book myself back in with the surgeons secretary. Welcome to the good old NHS0

Hi miss-_l, sorry to hear of your probs with proposed surgery. Has anyone suggested using NHS Choose and Book to see if there is a hosp with a shorter waiting list? Hope you get sorted soon as it's so frustrating, not to mention the pain. regards, Stan the man.0

Thank you for all your kind words and support.
Going through a rough patch and completely emotionally drained at the moment.
The original consultant has now backed out of the surg all together and am seeing my 4th consultant 23rd this month in the hope he will agree to do it.
I'm not quite sure what will happen if he too says no - i dont think i have the strength to keep getting my hopes up at the moment.
Sorry if it has quite a down tone, i've def lost my sparkle!

i'm so sorry you are having such problems, they don't seem to take into account how we are in pain and suffering, we often are just a hospital number.
i to have been having problems today with my local hospital, although nothing like what you going through, i still find it wrong that we are waiting for them!!!
fingers crossed you'll get a new date soon, but in the meantime i would think it a good idea to get in touch with consultant or secretary to voiuce your concerns, they need to take you seriously.
