Hi
Had my pre op today. All seemed to go well, took forever though we were at the hospital 3 hours.
Yes I do have a heart and yes I do still have some blood left even after the armful she took. After filling the 4th phial my blood stopped flowing, thought I'd run out  she wiggled the needle round and it started again, phew.
So all being well op should go ahead on 5th June, quite possibly using an epidural which she said was quite common, most THR's are done this way now.
Been fitted out for all the gadgets I need during recovery as well.
We got one of those picker upper thingys, take a tip from me don't try and lift a bottle of wine up with one, :? went everywhere, oh not best pleased.

Thanks Colin, trying to put on a brave face but actually, well I won't say it but you know what I mean. Can't complain about the hospital though or the staff, except dracula, everyone has been great.

Rita, hello. So glad that you got pre op stuff all sorted, and wishing you well for June 5th. My experience of having an epidural is all good. I was asked if I wanted a strong sedative as well, but I refused - wanted to see what was going on! I was totally awake the whole time, and everyone kept chatting to me. I was monitored every second, and the time flew by. I recovered very quickly, and was out of hospital within three days, and I am convinced that this was as a result of having the epidural. All the very best...Angel.

Hi Rita, best of luck for the 5th. I can recommend the epidural, had the sedative as well as I Didn't want to hear anything, it was totally amazing.recovery was good,op on Mon home on the friday. Pain relief excellent, just sleeping on my back remains a problem. 4 weeks on have had plenty of practice with the grabber, not risked a bottle of wine though, but can manage to carry a plastic tumbler half full so not all bad. Enjoy the next two weeks and try not to worry too much.

Hello Ritta, I laughed out loud at the things you've been up to with the picker uper. If you'r not careful, the family will take it away from you :!:  Seriously, good luck for the op. Take care, and don't put your family in A&E, you'll need them!:) Love Sue

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking of going down the epidural way as I've been told the recovery is so much quicker, I will be having the sedation though as I don't want to hear whats going on. I told the nurse tell me all I need to know but please don't tell me what or how they do it.

I'll have to have a practise with eggs, I'll do it over the sink saves having to clear up the mess, mind you the dogs will probably enjoy any broken ones.

Got my picker uppers from Asda, they even have little lights so I can pick things up in the dark, hehe.

Just another thought, my oh got me a bum bag as I'm always miles away from the telephone when he rings and there is always something I've forgotten when I sit down so he's hoping I'll use it and it will save his legs a bit, good idea but not used it yet, might put it to use soon though.

Hello, I hope they don't let you take that picker upper down to theatre  God know what you'll find to do with it, especailly if the docs stick the needles in you!!!

Seriously, its many years ago, but my Mum had to have an epidural for an op and she didn't remember anything, she had too as she had a heart condition. Good luck for a speedy recovery, Love Suexx

    Hi Rita

I have had 5 epidurals and I'm having another as I need another op on 1st June

You feel no pain at all during the op, they must give you some sort of sedation as you will have no knowledge of it being done either. I came around in recovery every time. I had no pain at all after I had my legs amputated.

I went back to the ward and asked for a cup of tea. My OH could not believe it when he saw sitting there with tea and biscuits.

I had the epidural left in for a few days and they top it up so you are kept free from pain after op.

I hope all goes well for you and will be thinking of you :)

    Hi Rita
Are you having your op. in Burton hospital? I saw on the other thread that is where you live. Two of my friends have had hip replacements there, and both speak very highly of the hospital. They both made quick recoveries, and are fit and well now.

All the best when your date arrives.

    Hi Joan
Yes it is Burton Hospital, as I've said in previous post I've got no complaints so far everyone has been great, except dracula of course, think she must of been having an off day. I now have a massive black bruise. :(
Thanks for letting me know about your friends, good to know they made a speedy recovery.

    Hi Trisher

Thanks for the info, so many have had it done with an epidural all say the same and it's really helped me make my mind up. I suppose it will be down to the dr and what he feels is best.
I'll certainly be thinking of you on the day, if you can go through all that mine will be a walk in the park, THR is nothing compared to what you've had done. What a very brave lady you are.
    Best wishes for 1st June.
