Hello Just to say that my neices husband, who has cancer of the colon went into hospital for surgery today, they had done pre-op on Tuesday, and he went in at 7am for the big op today. My neice has just rang in floods of tears as they are sending him home in a taxi, as his bp is too high for anasthetic. I had arranged care for my niece 24/7 as she is disabled and can't be alone at night. Now, for the second time, (they put the date back a week), we have to re-arrange, which is not too bad, but I live 3 hours drive away and cann't get to see her until my husband can take me, as its too far to drive as my arms are bad. They have had so much bad luck. I just pray they cope with this, as he has VERY bad pain at the moment and pain relief dosn't work well. I just pray they cope well. Sorry, this isn't really about arthritis, I just am alone as my husband is at work and wanted to 'get it off my chest'. Love Sue

    Hi Sue

Sorry to hear about the cancellation of the operation, and your subsequent difficulties. When an operation is cancelled for reasons like this, it is always a shock because everyone has got organised and mentally prepared for it to go ahead, not least the patient themselves. The same thing happened to my friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had to have a mastectomy. She was actually at the point of being wheeled into the operating theatre when the anaesthetist detected some problem with her heartbeat, and cancelled the op.

Despite the shock, you have to be grateful that the problems were picked up in time. My friend had her op 3 weeks later, and is doing well now. I hope that your niece's husband will have his op soon too, and that he will be out of pain.

    Joan

Sue, it is so frustrating when that happens and particularly when he is in so much pain.

I will keep my fingers crossed(as best i can) for him and your neice.

    Hi Sue,

I am sorry to read that he wasn't done. I hope they can soon bring his bp under control and that you are able to get the care package in place again and hopefully next time they will do it. Take care and fingers crossed your luck will change for your family. Luv Cris x

Thanks everyone. Yes, we are glad now, that the op was stopped and they think he will be fit enough in 3 to 4 weeks, so fingers crossed. The only problem is that hes getting weaker and loosing more weight, despite nutritional supliments. And the care is just on hold, no probs there. Thanks again everyone. Love Sue
