I am on Omeprazole. . . I know different people take different things. .
when do you take it? With your other medication? a few hours before?
I have been told different things by one pharmasist and my GP. It's just my joints are really bad today, and I defo took it at the same time as my other meds this morning. Maybe this isn't a good idea? I can't remember what time I have taken it other days recently (I always take my diclofenac and pred at the same times each day - omeprazole depends if I have any close to hand or not), but it just seems like some days I am fine and other I feel AWFUL!
I thought it was weather related, but today is nice and tomorrow is supposed to be so that wouldn't fit in. . .
Thanks in advance guys.

Hi Emmarose
I take Omeprazole and Diclofenac. I was told to take the Omeprazole first thing in the morning, but not to take the Diclofenac at the same time. Consequently, I wait for an hour or so in between. I have the Diclofenac just after breakfast because I think you are supposed to take it with food. It can all be a bit confusing, can't it? But I think it is important to take drugs as recommended if they are to work properly.

I thought I wasn't supposed to take them at the same time!! Someone (either GP or consultant) told me it was fine to do that. I will keep my omeprazole on my bedside table now and take it either first thing or if I wake up in the night. This could be the reason I feel so bad some days, it may be stopping me from absorbing all the medication. It wouldn't have been a problem before because I was on gastro-resisitant diclofenac so they would have dissolved in my intestine not my stomach, but last time they gave me normal kind. . hmm, thanks!0 -
Hi Emmarose,I take Omeprazole, one tablet an hour before I eat breakfast. Then with or just after breakfast I take one antiflam(Naproxen). My GP told me to take the stomach protector an hour before breakfast so that it lines the stomach for the day.I did ask if I could take pain killers around the same time and he said that was OK.Sometimes I think different GP's tell you different instructions and it becomes very confusing.Hope this will be of help but you may want to double check with your GP or chemist as it may all depend what other meds you are taking.Hope you will have a better day tomorrow. Breane.x0

Hi, I am on the same as Breane but was never told to take them separately so been taking them with my brekkie.
Some mornings feel like morning sickness - now I am thinking it could be this.
This is where you guys are such a help.I would never have guessed the reason for these symptoms.
Thanks Linda H 8)0 -
Hi Emma Omeprazole has to be taken on a regular basis in order to build up in your system. Normally when you need to have a gap between the omep and other meds it will tell you on the other meds. When I was last in hospital I was given it with the rest of my meds and took them all together. The only thing I know of that you cant take it with is PREDNISOLONE. Some meds upset the lininig in your tummy and the OMEP is to prevent it However I would talk to your GP as joan says she takes them at different times. Take care

I take the same as Jaspercat but take mine first thing in the morning which is what my gp told me to do, then I take Indometacin and my painkillers all ok so far.

Hi Emma-Rose
My GP told me to take my Omeprazole 2 hours before having my breakfast and Hydroxychloroquine. I think this might be specific to the Hydroxy though...possibly stops it working properly if less than 2 hours apart. Others meds could be different.0 -
Same as Jasper for me too...
I take it first thing with my breakkie, but if I am in pain will already have taken a painkiller

Hi
I take my stomach protector at the same time as all my tablets, I always have my breakfast first then all my tablets, I was trying to space my tablets out as also take Leflunomide and Naproxen but my doctor said it didn't make any difference as some of the tablets were slower releasing. I will be interested to see what everyone else does, we seem to get so many difference advices no wonder we get confused and scared.

Hi everyone
After reading about when you all take this I am confused. I have been popping all the pills down in one go with breakfast. Pred and Omeprazole together. Haven't suffered so far and with a hietis hernia just to add to my hundred and one problems I haven't felt uncomfortable taking it when I do. I think I will think about taking it first thing though.
But looking at the number of pills I have to pop, I wonder how many you all have to take. I have summed them up and mine go like this:
Doxazosin x 2 for blood pressure morning
Ome x 1
pred x 2.5 and 5 mg at present - 2 tabs
Folic Acid x 1 except day of injection - add injection x 1
add Alendronic acid x 1
theneven it is Candesartan x 2 tablets for blood pressure - these help me relax and sleep
Pregabaline twice a day
then to those I have added some Natural products like Cherry Drops and Rose Hip and Turmeric
Can anyone beat this? No wonder we have upset tummies.

Hi
I take Omeprazole.
I take one in the morning and one with my afternoon meal.
I then take my Modified Release anit inflammatories at night before I go to bed.
I was not told to take any on empty stmach or with / without food.
I have been taking these for 3 days now and they seem to be working.0 -
Just looked and I take Omeprazole....I was told to take it in the evening but no mention with food? But then I am in France and perhaps took the translationg wrong...will take a look at the instuctions, which I am sure I did 6 months ago! :?0

thanks everyone. I think the pharmasist told me not to take it with other meds when i was prescribed hydroxychloriquine. I don't take this anymore. I am supposed to take it twice a day.0

I take 7mg Prednisone every day and once a week I take Spéciafoldine (15mpg all told). When I was first prescribed the Prednisone I was also prescribed Aerius too as the consultant said it protected my stomach from the Prednisone. But I am lactose intolerant and no one has been able to find a tablet that doesn't contain lactose. I bought myself some homeopathic tablets which I take but my GP cannot prescribe them.
The medication I am taking is prescribed here in France so the names are probably different.0 -
Hi,
I've been taking 20mg Omeprazole, at any time in the day as it says on the instructions. I've started getting stomach pains, doctor said to carry on and Rheumatologist will sort it out whenever I get to see him? I've only got two weeks supply left so something will have to happen soon.
As to the feeling grotty one day and OK another, yep, I get all that, haven't been able to put my finger on why, though. I get a bloated feeling and never feel hungry, I've put on weight as well. If I stop taking them the pain increases.
8) Its a grin,honest!0 -
This is an interesting thread. I have been taking all my morning meds together after breakfast but maybe I should put the omeprazole on my bedside table and take it before I get up. There seems to be a lot of different instructions out there....??0

airwave. . . obviously I am not a doctor(!!) but it might be a good idea to increase your omep. to 40mg daily. I was on 20mg but now ususally I take 40mg daily (on the advise of my consultant), just because my tummy was hurting a bit OR take 20mg one day then 40 the next, then 20 again and so on.
If you run out you can buy it over the counter, 'zanprol', 10mgs, you have to take 2 at a time. Quite pricey! I forgot to renew my script and had to buy them last weekend. . . . onyl to find I actually did have some left several days later. doh!0
