Hi,
My wrists and hands have become very useless and swollen. the fingers are swollen, I may have to remove my ring and I should rather not have to, silly really but I know some of you have had to do it so will understand.
I was looking at some old posts today about this and i wondered if I got some would they help me to be able to work? I am kinda having a bit of a problem using them as they hurt quite a bit and seem to be very weak. I keeps letting go of things and sometimes if its a hammer its not too safe........
Before I go could i just say Hi to Vonski, Gill and Wonky. x
Take care, Cris

Um....i think if body is telling you theres pain you should rest and not use splints but some people do use splits so its like catch 22 as to what you should do..........think best seeing a physio.
R u cris from heating campaign as all our names have changed, if yes, hope all family is well..........0 -
Hi Oneday,
No sorry i am not that Cris. I know today I have been paying for making them scat docs down yesterday, would physio help do you think? I see the pain clinic next month and maybe she could help them. I don't even know whats gong on with them but they are now waking me up and would a splint help to keep them happier at night? Sorry how many questions is that?
Take care,

HI Chris,
I got my wrist splints via the physio, after my gp referred me to the OT for them.
They take some getting used to, but I find that they do help me to manage some stuff without too much pain on the days when my wrists are sore. They let me do more for longer without as much pain, but they don't get rid of all my problems, and they can't be worn all day.
Also some things are impossible when wearing them!
at other times I wear them when my wrists are ok but I am doing things which may hurt them (lifting mother-in-law's wheelchair in and out of car for one!!!) so that I don't make them worse.
if you are wondering if they might work for you then it is probably worth trying them to see. But I would get them from OT or Physio rather than trying to get them for yourself.
take care,

Hi,
i guess splints to help to ease pain would be a good idea but not for making you push yourself through pain and making it worst...
yes, ask questions everywhere you go!!!
think i should go to bed, posts sounding garbled!!0 -

Hi Oneday,
You made perfect sense and thank you, I think I might be my bones worst enemy..... but they are mine as well!
You take care and sleep well, Cris
hi Wonkey
that sounds like a good idea, I need them to be willing to tick over even if they wont use a pounder. Not sure the gp would refer me to O/T but do you think the pain clinic doctor could? She's very helpful, if a bit brutal!
Nice to see you, don't wonder too far cus some of us worries about you.
Take care and ((( ))) for you and little legs from slobbery horrible slipper boy. x0 -
Cris, i have splints. The rheumy nurse referred me to OT they gave me 3 different types of splint for different pains 1. for thumb pain that just supports your thumb and wrist. 2. for the wrist and hand. 3. a sort of compression glove to aid the swelling.
I user the splints when my hands are particularly bad or when i am going to do something heavy like the weekly shopping or driving a long distance.
They are a bit awkward to wear and make your hands feel very hot but i find that is preferable to the pain if i orget to wear them.
i work with a computer all day and can work with them but they do slow me down so i only wear them when i really need to.
Hope this is helpful but as previous post i would get an OT referral as they can give you the right splints for your particular requirements. (i hate it when it is referred to as "your particular problem")0 -
Thanks for this topic Cris and everyone - I have found it useful too!

I use a wrist support but tend to use it when driving or something that is going to put strain on my wrist. Then take it off and rest it when I can. I have been thinking about wearing it more in the hopes that it means my wrist wouls stay straighter as its fusing itself but I have lost more downwards movement than upwards.
good luck

Hi
I find them really good. Try and get referred to an Occupational Therapists if you can. I wear mine whenever I go out to protect my joints. They are called Comfort Cool and you can buy them from Able Care, if you have a branch near you. Look on the Web.
Yes, they are good and I recommend them.

Hi Madwestie,
Thanks for your reply, I think with me it would be best to have them to help when I am going to do something that will upset the wrists especially. Just to get a bit of extra support and maybe a little less pain eh? I'm not too sure what my problem is just now, I know what the Rumo said it was but the blood tests said not but the pain doctor may have some ideas eh? That's only next month. Take care x
Hi Mandy,
Thanks as well, I use my hands a lot and they are very unhappy with life the universe and everything just now! I think this may be a way of helping them out a bit eh? x
Hi Joy,
I will have a look at the site but will also see if i can get the ones from O/T as I am not sure what would be the best to try. Its a good site though and it may say what the different kinds are best used for. Take care and thanks.
Hi Toni,
It is interesting, and maybe something we might benefit from? Mine are ballooning now, they hate Doc's! They are not going to like shearers anymore than shovels but I don't think there is a splint to help for that one eh? Take care, xx0 -
I've got wrist splints from the OT. I find that I can't wear them for long as they are too tight for my carpel tunnel, but if I have a bad day I will wear them when I am watching TV or reading for about an hour at most and that helps a bit. Any more and my hands become more painful! Trust me!!! Love Sue0
