Hi again i read the posts everyday and they have helped, at least I now feel I am not alone i have been in touch with a couple of very nice members. My problem is my voice, ears and thoat it is driving me mad, I posted about this when it started, I had a spot in my throat and an ear infection. Well i thought it was an ear infection after seeing the specialist he says it is OA but as he is ENT doctor that was it end of story. My voice is getting worse it is very horse most of the day now and my ears have pain in them and feel like they are wet all the time strange feeling . I wondered if anyone else had this. I have read others with similer problems but they all seem to have RA. in the last 9 months i seem to have really gone down hill i had my knee replaced last year and my hip a couple of years ago but i didnt feel so run down, I have OA in my shoulders, neck, fingers , toes, other knee . I am really feeling down and my doctor has just retired so that isnt helping but to be honest he just said it was the OA when ever i asked a question and was not interested in advising me . Well that was a moan and a half but I really need some help it is driving me mad. you all help on a daily basis reading your posts keeps me going. all the best to you all .............sandra

Hi there. You are indeed not alone with us bunch of "Arfurs" for company! I'm somewhat puzzled by how your ENT arrives at the conclusion you have "OA" in the voice, ears and throat! There are no joints of any kind here so don't know how this daft diagnosis was made or arrived at in the first place!

I believe you should get an urgent second opinion as to what the real problems are behind the voice, ears and throat problems you're experiencing. In order for you to get the right diagnosis and treatments, I suggest you go back to your GP,preferably with a close and trusted friend, and ask for a re-referral to another ENT Specialist and a further referral to a Rheumatologist. Perhaps,if they're based in the same hospital, they could liase with each other as to the best course of action for the treatments you so desperately want and need. Its not helping either when your GP,retired or otherwise, just keeps telling you that all you have is OA without the proof to back it up.It seems to me your regime of treatment is at best pathetic and at worst a disaster.

I would urge you to go back to your GP with a list of questions you need to be asking him/her.I suggest you also book a double appointment to give you the time you need to discuss in detail what is wrong. By having a friend with you there at the consultation, he/she can help you by filling in the bits you may overlook. This has to be a better way forward to getting you the treatment you need for your future welfare!

I wish you all success for the future.....

    Hello

In osteoarthritis, the joint cartilage breaks down. Cartilage exists in the middle ear and unfortunately abnormalities and hearing loss can be expected in osteoarthritis due to degeneration of the cartilage and the subsequent abnormal repair response.

    Best wishes
    Elna
