I have been looking up MRI scans on the internet and what it is used for. Many of you have had MRI scans recently and it helps to identify problems caused by vertibrae damage etc.
One thing that hit me in the eye with the usage of MRI was that it should not be used on anyone who is undergoing Chemotherapy.

Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug and one which hasbeen used for curing various cancers since the 60's.

Therefore, is this the reason why I have not been given an MRI scan to date. I was hoping I would get one arranged on the 4th, andit will be a question I shall ask when I go to the pain clinic.

I just want to know what is happening to my body. Am I over reacting? Has anyone had an MRI scan whilst on MTX?

Hello I've not heard of this before. I have OA, so do not take the drugs you do, but I think people who post on here have RA and take methotrixate. When having a scan, it is not listed as one of the things co-toindiacted for MRI, only pacemakers, internal clips etc. but I am unsure. Love Sue

    hi,you are right sue.
the questionere asks about the metal in ur body i.e clips, joint replacements,pacemakers.etc.
its because they interfere with the magnets, they ask if u have peircing(sp)& tatoos. i asked on saturday about tatoos :?: the answer was cause if theres red in them it heats up in the scanner
so its the metal they want to know about.
    hope that helps. debsx

hi i have been on methetrexate for about 5 years now and i had a mri scan last year - so i hope could go in on it!
i didnt have a mri for my arther, i had unexplained pins and needles and they wanted to check nothing wrong with head or neck. though was my rheumy who sent me, wanted to rule everything out as was not sure it could have been meds! which i still think it was even if they dont!!! thankfully there was nothing.
i have had a bone density scan though this year though so can check its all ok and have a record for future years! and i have had normal xrays on hands and feet to see whats happening - so if you are concerned there might be over options rather than mri
    well goodluck

thanks. Considering the amount of uncomfortable sensations and pain, there has to be something untoward going on. It's about time I had some answers. I sometimes think it has to do with your age. You get to 65 and you don't seem to get the treatment. I am feeling very frustrated. Oh well only a few more days.
