Hi all
I'm currently taking humira and gold injections alongside nsaids pain relief etc. yesterday started getting sore throat to its slighty worse although bearable. I'm wondering if i should see gp incase i need anti biotics or am i time wasting and worrying to much again? i know if you need antibiotics you must stop humira til finished course. Any ideas?
Hope your all ok
love

Hi Rosie, I'd wait a couple days and see how things pan out, I know we are miles away from each other but everyone here has sore throats and colds. I always notice that when there has been a bout of nice weather. Maybe if it doesn't clear, you can speak to your GP. Coming off your meds is a big decision if you are correct in that they must be stopped. I know it's awful but I always gargle with warm salty water then have a cup of tea after. Always makes it better for a little while, then I do it again. I hope you feel better soon xx

I agree. So many causes for sore throats incl hayfever. People this year, who have never suffered before, are this year incl my OH.
He can't believe it. Now he doesn't tell me to shut up.
Yes, leave it for 24 hours and if still bothering you, see GP.

Lots of my medication irritate my throat each morning, so much so, it feels like it is coated in everything.

Hi Rosie, Sorry to hear about the throat, The rheumy nurse told me that that some of the meds we use can cause thrush, Do you get the dry mouth and throat i used to think it was the MTX causing it but not on MTX now and still get it. The other problem we face is that we are filled with fear about some meds and what they can do to you, it can be quite scary and scares the hell out of me when i dwell on it. I have had my meds stopped twice now and you tend to go downhill quite quickly. You will have to stop taking your Humira if you get an infection and its more than likley your GP will know little about it so make shure you produce your card to the GP
If it continues i would contact the GP for an appointment. by the way if it is thrush you get 2 white like spots at the back of your throat. Take care hope your better soon

    Hi Joy

Yes, dry mouth is a sign too. I would get it checked out by your gp or local pharmacist and treatment consists of anti-fungal medicines which can be given as drops or pastilles.

Often there are no white spots. Areas within the mouth may just become red and sore. This can occur if you get thrush after a course of antibiotics or steroids.

I am surprised that you have been suffering and not asked anyone about it. Now hopefully it will all be cleared up in a very short time. :D

Getting thrush is very common but it is very easy to get rid of too. It is contagious - any transmission of saliva from one "infected" person to another and your odds are pretty high at contracting it.

    Look after yourself,
    Elna
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

That's a good job you went then Rosie. Just take your tablets and get yourself better, that's the main thing for now. Look after yourself now. x
