I found out i had osteoarthritis about two weeks ago, the consultant i saw never actually bothered to tell me i found out a week later when i went for splints for carpal and the therapist told me.

well that left me confused, what was i supposed to do for treatment? could it be treated etc

so yesterday i went to my Gp, yes i defiantly have it in my thumb and knee and my finger is starting to feel like my thumb so i assume its coming there to.

Now my thumb is agony, i cant move it or touch it and i kneed to wear a support all the time, my knee flares every so often so is not as much of a problem.

I was given diclofenac and co codamol, is this normal? i have been getting a dull aching pulsing type of feeling down my fingers in the last few days, is this osteoarthritis to? also when im colder my hand feels slower to respond.

Im shocked at the speed its all come in, two months literally im worried at the speed of it and is it just going to
get worse and worse?

    Hi Charlotte
Poor you I take it you did have bloods taken and they were negative so it is OA?
If so the meds you are on sound ok.
The only thing I can suggets to add would be heat or cold pads?
There are stronger painkillers you can try if it gets worse.
    Take care
    Toni x

That sounds an ok combination. If you are still sore, try as Toni suggested to see if that helps. If not, maybe wait a day or two and contact your GP again. But I take diclofenac and it does build in your system the more you take it, so important not to miss a dose. Hope you feel better soon, take care x

Hi Charlotte,My OA and RA started in my thumbs and progressed to the hands and wrists.I started taking Sopadol and they did work for a while but I then had to go on to Tramadol,Naproxen and Omeprazole.I did find the OA and RA escalated quite quickly and the past months it has been very bad. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. My Gp put me on a course of steroids and the past week I have been pain free. :) I remember when I first got the pain in the thumbs and hands,I used to get strange sensations in the hands, such as tingling and pins and needles.Other members have said the same thing.I was only diagnosed last dec. but there will be other longstanding members who will have better advice for you. Take care,Breane.x :)

well i saw the ocupational nurse today, im not suposed to wear my thumb splint in work due to infection control but i cant be without it.

She did say the diclofenac would take a month to get in my system but the pain is bad, im worried now about the pain in my other fingers which have been niggling all day.

I cant take Tramadol they make me funny, give me a headache on co codamol 30/500.

I go for nerve conduction tests on fri for the carpel so will know if im having surgery or not, they said the athritis set the carpel off, i think it was that way round anyway, all i keep thinking is this pain will get worse and never go away.

I havnt had any blood tests, was just told osteoarthritis.
