Hiya!

Had my R THR on 27th May. Came home Monday 1st June. Feeling absolutely fantastic. A lot different from my L THR in June 2006 - a lot less pain. I did not take any strong painkillers last night - just using paracetamol at the mo. My surgeon used a jig type equipment to fit the joint to give a much more precise fit. Anyway I'm off for my "daily walk". :D

    Hi JK

    Thanks for the message!!

The jig equipment was introduced to the hospital I had my op in as a trial to see how it assists patients - if successful it may be used nationally. The surgeon explained the jig will assist with fitting the joint more precisely than the conventional method - the hammer. I had to sign a consent form to agree to the use of the jig.

A friend in the construction industry explained that a jig helps to fit "joints" precisely so that the building structure is sound.

I feel absolutely feel fantastic and am taking it easy. I can raise my leg to the side 40 degrees on some days!! But am not pushing it. I now use no painkillers as the pain is a slight sore healing pain on the cut.

    I hope this helps.
