I would love to see the same GP more than once!

Went to see a GP yesterday and it was a different one, again! I used to see the same GP every time I went but he then retired. Now I get to see a different one each time and have to start my saga from the beginning.
I've recently signed onto ESA and wanted the doc to give me a long term sick note but he didn't know what I was talking about. I used to work at the local hospital but when I said this he replied that he hated that hospital.
I then asked him to look at my heel as its incedibly painful at the mo, he said it could be plantar fascitis (sp!) or a bone hook and if it didn't settle down I'd have to have a steroid injection. But he kept saying it would be incredibly painful and I wouldn't/shouldn't want it. He made me feel like I was begging for painful medical procedures to be done to me!!!!
I've had RA for 11yrs and numerous steroid injections, operations etc etc but only when desperate. I'd rather not have extremely painful joints but thats the hand I've been dealt.
Stupid man.

Yes, he is stupid. When you next make an appointment, just tell the receptionist you don't want him, you'll have another GP if there's that much choice!
Perhaps you can speak to the practise manager and explain why it's so important you see the same GP each time?

Hi, sorry that you have this problem, the gp I like to see only works on a monday and tuesday, but he is very good and understand the problems I face with my RA, so I try not to see anyone else love Jaspercatxx0

Do you think, that the more complex you become, that each time you go to make an appointment at the doctors, they must have a message pop up against your name saying " This client needs to go DR so and so. He's the next one on the list. My GP has semi-retired and I can hardly ever see him. The next gp I like to see has worked in Rheumy, but on the two occasions I have made appointments with him, he has suddenly 'gone home sick' or 'he's on holiday' or 'gone on urgent home visit' or whatever. I am so desperate to see a gp I will then see anyone and you come away with very little relief If all else fails, then the Pain Clinic's decision is the holy gospal after that.
It is my opinion that there is very little that they can do for us with the funds that are available to them. We all have a great number of drugs on our files and each referral that they have to make for our benefit, help with pain, etc etc is going to take extra funding from our quota. Is this correct or am I guessing wrong?
All the options open to us are extremely expensive and, atthe end of the day, we need to know what is the best for us and that it will work no matter what the cost. There are cures out there for us.
We wouldn't have to see them so much then would we? As usual I have goneon too long. It's not Sunday, but thats the end of my sermon.

Hi Jenzie
I know the frustration of seeing different doctors. My doctor's is a large practice, but only one doctor is full-time, all the others work part-time, so it makes it difficult to get an appointment with the one of your choice. There is no continuity when you see different ones, but I do try, even if it means waiting a few weeks for the appointment. If you are in pain though, you can't wait weeks. Then I ring on a day when he is there, and say it is urgent. There is a triage system, but the word urgent usually works.
I had awful pain in my heels for ages, and it was diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. My doctor warned me that a steroid injection in the heel can be very painful, but I didn't find it too bad at all. I had one in each heel, and at first I didn't think it had worked, but eventually the pain disappeared. Luckily, it has never returned.
The doctor you saw sounds very negative, so I would try someone else next time if you can.

Hi
That must be so frustrating for you.
There is alot of doc's at my practice but i only have one that i am with but i can see another doc if she isn't working.
It is hard to get to see her so i make appointments before hand through the internet and cancel if i don't need to see her.0 -
Hi Jenzie
Hmm getting to see a Dr. at all at my practise is a nightmare, only get an appointment if you tell them it's an emergency so like you never see the same one twice. It's very frustrating. As for the steroid injections don't let that stupid man put you off. Yes they are uncomfortable at the time but not very painful and they do give a lot of relief. If you have plantar fasciitis didn't he refer you to the Pods for some insoles? That's the first thing my Dr. did was send me for insoles, only thing was I ended up with the hospital shoes too, not pretty but they help. Another thing is I'm pretty sure that plantar fasciitis causes bone spurs. Maybe go back and see another Dr.
Love
