Yes!!! And I don't know why either because my RA isn't that bad!! Sometimes I just drop things too and I seem to have got really clumsy. I wondered if it was a side effect of the meds I take - I'm on prednisolone and MTX...0 -
not on that think it to do with arthritus as was doing it before seeing docval0

I keep dropping glasses so we got some extra thick ones and guess what? They have taken chunks out of the tiles now!! Oops!

yes! i actually have broken all but 2 glasses that we owned, so goodness knows how many, i to just seem to lose my grip and smash they go. it's so frustrating because now we have to use plastic ones! fine with me but hubby and eldest daughter aren't impressed.
it's not just glasses, bowls, i've broken at least 6 since RA came along, and plates.
see arthur does cost us a fortune, just keeping a supply of these breakables!!
also i am more clumsy, it seems to go through phases though. some days i could fall over a dust bunny! and i am forever bumping into the door handles, i seem to lose my balance, if that makes sense?!
maybe it's time for unbreakable camping plates etc?!!

I'm always dropping things too. I got through all the glasses and plates in the house so now I use melamine crockery/mugs and plastic tumblers. These too crack if you drop them a lot but certainly last a lot longer than the real thing. I gave up having 'nice' stuff ages ago as it just wasn't worth it. :? You can get some lovely sets of melamine these days tho. I have a set that I use for 'best' only when we have visitors.

Echo :!: Echo :!:
I do have oa in thumbs which does not help but also bump into door frames and the like
I am only on anti inflams at the mo, so isn't the meds. Perhaps it is the white/red wine

Hi
I drop things, walk into things and trip over a lot....... I don't know if I have some kind of ra cousin but I do have OA and I do carry a lot of weight....... I was carrying buckets of water in each hand and couldn't understand why my leg was wet..... I didn't even realize I had let go and that a bit of weight so if you find out why please let us know.
Hey Elna, you have made me feel so much better...... i hit door and door frames a lot, walk like a drunk and it is nice to know its not just me............ Padded shirts help with the impact by the way Hope all's well, Luv Cris x0 -
You have all just opened my eyes! I thought I was being stupid and clumsy! I didn't even realise lack of co-ordination was a symptom of arthritis!
I drop things and bump into doorways (especially if I'm in pain, I seem to stagger) and I don't trust myself carrying the hoover up and down stairs anymore.
Thank you everyone! I feel so much better!

The worst things that I've dropped are eggs or soap in the shower, especially when the floor is oh so far away
........... and I'm the queen of burning my hands and fingers too - I think it must be like a magnetic force when getting things from the oven, on the iron or a steaming pan.
Does this happen to anyone else or is it me? :?

Hi All
This is amazing. I have been breaking crockery and glasses for the last few years and never realised it was due to RA. I have about 6 sugar bowls with no lids as I have broken all the lids. I have taken to buying stainless steel sugar bowls. I also trip over my feet and bump into doors. I often burn myself cooking, the worst was when I burnt my hand so badly it blistered and I did not even feel the pain. Perhaps with RA you get so accustomed to pain you become oblivious to any lesser pain. I feel a sense of relief that I am not just clumsy. Thanks Vijay0 -
thanks to u all feel so much better about it would not have said any thing to doc as would have felt silly always walking into door frames ect glad not on my own also only on anti inflam tabs so not thatval0

Hi Cris
Hope you are ok and managing.
Thanks for the tip. Bit warm for padded shirts at the mo. This afternoon I "fell" down the last 2 two stairs, doing the hoovering and managed to bash my elbow on a door frame - the air was blue - it did an arf hurt. Yep, I get a gold star for burning myself on the oven too. I dropped the scissors yesterday and managed to puncture the top of my foot. Lots of blood and that did an arf 'urt as well. I am always bashing my toes when walking barefoot in the hot weather. Used to always walk barefoot but cannot now, they get too cold. Just as well really as I would not have any toes left by now.
Better go and do the pasta meal now and see what damage I can do to myself and the meal. Bon Appetit!
Luv

Hi Elna,
Hope you survived the kitchen? The falling over, tripping thing I do so much. I twisted my ankle last week because I forgot to step down and just walked out like a cartoon character....... Silly isn't it but I am relived other do it and just wish I could stop as I have as many bumps and bruises as I did as a 2 year old!
Had more jabs today, they do help but I was stupid. I know one of the employers puts up an incredible fight over being undressed and decided that before the local wore off I would get her done...... She almost is but the local is wearing off and I truly hurt...... Time I got a brain eh? Luv Cris xx
Hi Legs,
I also am covered in burn marks all winter cus I go to the bit of the fire that doesn't burn you but grab the bit that does....... repeatedly...... I must be a slow learner eh? x0 -

What WERE you doing with the eggs in the shower? On second thoughts; do I REALLY want to know?
As for dropping things, I could write a book. (That bounced).

Wow I can't believe this thread, I am always dropping plates and glasses I am banned from unloading the dishwasher !!
I also am permanently bruised as I continually bump into door frames. It is so nice to know I am not on my own. Maybe you all fall in the shower as well and hit the kerb with the car?
Or should I keep that to myself?!

It's a happy release for me to drop things. Even better if they do break. When I got married to my 3rd OH 13 years ago this July, we were given some china from M&S. I had told everyone I wanted this particular white china and some particular wine glasses. Well, we had so000000000 much (There are still boxes of it in the loft) we shall never use it all. Then there was all the doubling up of other glasses, china, everything in fact. So, no it doesn't matter if I break anything and the way I feel at the moment, I might just go out and help it all along.

im so embarrassed reading this.ive got 2 wine glasses in the house.
2pint glasses,& an arrangement of odd mugs.
i darent dust for fear of breaking ornaments that have been handed down through grandparents.i have put a few in the loft, out of harms way.
ive got a lovely set of gold edged plates that were a wedding pressie, but sadly 6 out of the 12 have got chips in them.
(got 2 sets)most of the side plates have been broken.
ive got no plug in the bath, well i have but theres no chain,so o/h has to put the plug in bath & pull it out.
alot off the tiles in the bathroom have had to be replaced, due to my falls & taking the bath rails off the wallls.oh what i wonderful life.
so i break things too.wonder how long my stair rails will last. :roll:0 -
Oh I SOOOOOOOOOOO recongnise all this!
I am particularly adept at dropping anything that is in a squeezy type bottle, as it is almost impossible to work out whether I have the right pressure on or not.
In supermarkets and when shopping in general I choose items for their ease of use rather than their contents .... which sometimes causes my hubby to wonder at my sanity
I remember when I was particularly bad at being able to feel things at my finger tips, we used to joke about me having 'dropsyitis' and at least we had a laugh about it. Otherwise I would have really got down about it.
One thing that terrifies me is at church when it is communion. I hate being passed the small wine cups we use, as I can't always pick it up properly, and dread showering the minister / steward with the contents!0 -
that would b embarasing  bet he has dropped it a couple of times so if it happens just look up at him and smile as u say sorry he must also have had others drop it we r all human so fingers crossed it never happens good luckval0
