Hi old friends & new! Just a little update from me to say I am sorry I haven't looked in for a while.
I was told I needed new hip about 2 weeks ago & tentatively read booklet they give you but put it down almost straight away! Am I weird that I just don't want to know what is going to happen?! That's why I've been away playing games on facebook, twittering about rubbish & shooting zombies! I guess I am the one who hid behind the settee when the Darleks appeared!
I have about three month wait possibly. I am just going to check all your posts now - Lindalegs - Bless you! I will be wishing you well & thinking of you & also hoping we hear from Rita soon too.
Have missed you all - just wanted to let you all know my state of mind!
Love Pen XX

    Hi,

I know exactly how you feel! I've tried to avoid reading anything about it and somehow people only tell you negative experiences !
I think sometimes knowledge can be a bad thing for the nerves! Although knowing what will happen in terms of recovery i guess will help!

I hope everything goes well with your wait - im going for pre op checks on the 23rd and very nervous !

    Hi Pen,

Its nice to see you. I think you and Miss I would have to be inhuman to not have some nerves but it will be ok and you'll soon both be up and running with such a huge change to how you are now you will you know.

I understand not wanting to know too much and you both should do it the way that is best for you. Good luck to you both though and don't go worrying cus it will all go ok.

    Take care,

    Cris x

    Hi Pen

Good to see you back :) I'm like you when it comes to to much info about ops etc, sure you don't need to know it all.

Good luck when your time comes round for the op.

    Love

    Hi
I was very nervous and I think its only human to be nervous. Unfortunately, I had prior knowledge of the op as I am a nurse. And it is not always a good thing for me to know too much info!!
Hence the GA!! But don`t let that sway your anaesthetic options! I have had spinals twice for caesarians and recommend them.
I read on here once that someone had been looking the op up on You tube   I did not!!! The op for me was away of getting rid of OA in that joint and the awful pain it brought me. Simple. I leave the rest to my surgeon!!
So, just try to do as much as you are able to fill your time before your op, and plan for when you are recovered.

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, everyone - I don't need to tell you how much they help cos we've all been there.
Miss l - We must try & keep in touch here on how we get on as we in same boat!
NB. skezier & vonski - your support here over the last months has been amazing.
NB - I think I will go for the GA too as I have not had such good experience with epidural - hope they don't make me feel bad for insisting on it!

    Hi
Re the GA, if its what you feel is best for you and you don`t have any medical reasons to avoid a GA , stick to your guns. I know it helped me to feel less anxious knowing I would be completely out of it. (although I know the sedation with the spinal makes people unaware of the op too)

    Hiya Pen
THEY GAVE YOU A BOOKLET!!! Well you lucky thing, All I was given was a stern talk on how bad I was going to be for the rest of my life if I went ahead with the op, (which I am doing) I wish my consultant was a human being, but I want a epidural when I have the op I(even though I am scared to death) I dont trust him now and if I am awake he will have to be more careful, but like he said it is the NHS and he may not be doing the op it may be a trainee and he cant spreak for whether they are any good or not. oooh lovely man....eh.

Hi, Sorry, but is was me who hid behind the the sofa! :) Try not not to worry to much you'll no nothing and with any luck, when you do come round you'll have a nice little button to press if it hurts, and everything just floats away, :) . I had perforated duoldenal ulcer and complications. My husband said I just sat propped up with my finger on the button and a faraway smile on my face!!! :D .

    Serously, you'll be fine. :)

    Hi,

I was really nervous before my op in March especially as it was by epidural, which I did not want but to be honest that turned out to be the least thing to worry about. The needle was sore going in but then I did not wake up until recovery. If you have time I would begin by doing the exercises as they will really help with the recovery. Any questions feel free to ask

    Hi Pen

I'm two weeks recovering from my R THR. Had L done in June 2006!!

I also got a booklet and found it useful but, was still nervous the 2nd time round!! Look to the end of the tunnel and what you will be able to do then that you cannot do now....

    Good luck.
