Red & swollen skin near nail bed

Very strange, the skin near the nail bed of my right thumb became red and sore. Now the redness has disappeared and it is not painful but the skin is peeling. It is the same on my left thumb, skin is peeling off. Any got this, I guess could be the OA in fingers!! It is just my thumbs who are affected now. Thanks
