good days and bad days

Hi. . . today is a bad day :(
I have been a bit surprised recently about the contrast between my 'good days' and 'bad days' (never had this before) -
Ususally they alternate, one day good, next day bad, then good again. . although yestrday and the day before was 2 good days in a row :)
I can tell as soon as I wake up which it will be, either my body aches awfully or it doesn't. On a good day I am sooo much better than on a bad day. Why? what causes it? Because if it's something simple like how much sleep I get or how much alcohol I drink the day before, then I'd really like to know!
Does anyone else have the same thing, a massive contrast? It affects my mood too. Yesterday I was all smiles, today I basically start crying everytime I have to move, and my 1 yr old really isn't helping matters!

    Hi Emmarose

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day. I'm afraid you are not alone; maybe the wet, cold weather isn't helping. I think these alternating good days/bad days seem to come as part of the territory with arthritis. I have just had a bad patch myself, but now I'm through it and feel OK. What causes it? That is a mystery to me too. I have just had to accept that it happens, and make the most of the good patches.

Hope you will soon feel better

    Hi Emmarose
Sorry you are having a bad day today. Its strange isnt it, you can go to bed after a good day feeling really upbeat and then wham, you wake up and wonder whats happened. I know that some research was done on the effect of the weather on arthritis, and it was suggested that negative ions in the air during bad weather can effect the joint capsule. Also because arthritis involves inflammation, the factors in your body that mediate inflammation are systemic, ie they travel around all of your body and can affect all parts of it not just remain contained in the specific joint. This is particularly the case with RA. Anyway if all else fails, perhaps we could set ourselves up as weathermen/women  On that note I also read in 'new scientist' some time ago that you have as much chance of correctly predicting the weather as the weather scientists if you predict that tomorrows weather is going to be the same as today!! (as weather moves in cycles).

    Hi Joan
sorry you have been going through a bad patch, hope you are on the up now and back to 'doing' your art gallaries.

Cyber hugs to you both and a kick up the backside to arthur

Ahh, we have 1yr olds party later. . . luckily my prtner is off work today so I'm dragging him with me!! Plus it's indoors, with seats, instead of at the park on the grass.

The bad days were previously quite controlled by the weather (when we spent 2 weeks in florida it was like I didn't have it!) but recently the weather hasn't had much effect.
Doesn't help that we were up at 3am with a screaming baby.

    Hi Page
No I absolutely dont think you are moany and anyway you have every reason to moan and this is the place to do it. It does seem to take a long time for the meds to work but if you have been taking them for about 3 months and there is no change maybe you should revisit your rhemy as he might want to try something else.
Happy partying. Oh I remember those days. My eldest was really shy and woudnt ever play with the other kids unless I was right beside her  She soon grew out of that when she hit teenagehood!!!!

Big hugs to everyone who's feeling poorly and I'm going to join in too! Oh, kids' parties, we have one to go to tomorrow. I wish and wish we could get out of it, but no chance, the girls are so excited.

I woke up feeling achy but did that thing of "getting on with it" which we all do, I'm sure. Got up early to do the housework, ferried the girls to ballet and then did the food shopping. By the time we'd unpacked the shopping and I'd made lunch, I was done in and curled up on the settee. Fell asleep in what I thought was a comfortable position but woke up an hour later, my arm and leg killing me. Have had just enough energy to cook the girls' tea and left the washing up to hubby! I didn't even enjoy my tea - chicken and bacon pasta bake, usually one of my favourites.

The worst thing is I can't even go swimming tomorrow as usual with my girlies because of "time of the month" (sorry to announce it, especially to the blokes reading!), I usually feel so much better after a swim. Try explaining that to a 5 year old :-(

Thanks for "listening". I'm fed up of being in pain and unhappy too.

    Hi Emma,
As Gill says it has lots to do with the inflammation in your body I think that’s what causes that flu like feeling too. I seem to get more bad than good days of late but when the good ones come along I can often get 2 or three days on the run then perhaps bad for a week or so.
If only we had the answer to it we would all feel great. People often say its your attitude and be more positive but that’s hard to do when you feel so ill and the constant pain is driving you mad.
Things I do to help when I’m feeling bad, I find if I try to keep myself occupied it takes your mind off things, Just as a point of interest you mentioned alcohol do you drink much, I used to drink quite heavy but stopped 3 years 5 months 6 days ago LOL do I miss it I sure do. I went on the wagon because the Rheumy refused to treat me unless I stopped drinking but that’s another story. I find that on the days I don’t have the flu feeling I’m better even if the Arthur is bad but when you have them both at the Same time its bad. Like most of you I just get on with things but find if I’m tired through lack of sleep I feel much worse. Are you taking Prednisolone that can cause insomnia. Well take care Emma hope you start feeling better soon.

Gill good post its amazing the effect that you get when inflammation is up it feels like you have arthritis from head to foot.

Nina well its just to much information for me, but fact of life and glad I’m a man, we get off quite easy don’t we.

    Page hope your better soon

Joan have i missed something or you just never told us

    Hi Colin

Thank you for asking. No, I didn't mention it because in comparison to other people, my problems weren't that bad. I had a week of bad pain in my legs, down the whole length. Don't know why, and now it is quite a bit better. I also had toothache caused by an infection in my gum, and the dentist put me on two different antibiotics, which made me feel unwell.

Back to normal again now ie. hobbling along, but not in bad pain.

My bad days are really erratic. I know that if I have a good day and overdo things, (easy if you have an especially good day), I pay for it the following day with extra aches and pains. The rest is random.

    Hi
I agree my bad days are totally random. Have been improving over the last couple of weeks with increased mxt, but yesterday woke up feeling dreadful, had to rest up which I HATE!! Feeling better today though.

    Hi
Its a bummer I cant drink any more either without feeling really dreadful. I never drank much but I did enjoy a glass of wine if we went out with friends. It isnt worth the sickness i get if I do have one now though, and it goes straight to my head, even one glass and i become really stupid
    Gillx

Nina i'm intregued (sp??) exactly what did you announce that I missed???????
    xx
