Women's problems - sorry!

This might be too much information, but it's bothering me a bit.
I've been taking Humira for 2 months (4 doses). I also take Mtx and am winding down the cortisone. For the last 4 weeks my previously regular periods have been all over the show.
I'm on the mini pill, which means my 'regular' periods are barely there and not very often, but I have now had a two-week period, 10 days off and now back on again quite heavily.
Do you think they may be connected, or just one of those things?
Sorry if I've said too much!

I'd say it's the cortisone causing this. I haven't had a proper period since my son was born over a year ago (well technically not had one in almost 2 years cos I was pg) - but I did have a strange 4 day bleed in december, which I can only blame on the steroid injection a few weeks before. I was told it could cause menstural irregularities.
Mini-pill can also cause 'breakthrough bleeding' which could be another possible cause.
If you are concerned or it bothers you see a doctor. If you haven't been for a smear in a long time it could be worth getting one done. . . also. . . I won't ask your age, but if you are nearing your menopause this could certainly be the start of it. Sorry!!

I agree with Emma. I too am having irregular periods and I have put in down to steroid injections and increasing prednisolone. I think the cortisone definately plays havoc with periods, my have been erratic for years. However, if it continues and you are worried see a doctor.
Take care

Hi Kellis
I think you should always check these things out with the doc shouldn't you?
What a pain in the bum!
Poor you!
Hope it settles or it could prove very confusing!

Hi, I was having the exactly same problem since being put on Gabapentin. Nothing at all when I'm every 28 days. 6 weeks late but not pregnant. Was having symptoms of them appearing this whole 6 weeks including the PMT
I scoured the net but could only find that they were supposed to help with menopause symptoms. I spoke to the Dr and he said that they can interact with other drugs I'm on. Best to check with your Dr.

Hi Kellis
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I don't have any practical advice but if I was in your position, I would see the doctor, for reassurance if nothing else.

Hmmm - thanks for all your replies.
Menopause?? I'm 41, so perhaps a little early!
Cortisone?? I've been on and off it for the last 3 years and this is the first time my periods have been a bit wonky. The Humira is new, which made me wonder.
If I could say what I said in my original post in French I would perhaps go and ask the doctor!!! Oh the joy of living in France!!
Fortunately my rheumy speaks good English, so it may have to wait until I next see him!
Or I could take one of my fluent French daughters and humiliate the hell out of them with 'Mum's problems'!!!0 -

Hi
I am also 41 and have been on Humira for just over 3 months. I am also on 5mg prednisone a day and 10 mg methotrexate a day. I was also very regular until I started the Humira. I now have a 3 day proper menstruation and then a very light period for around 10 to 14 days until ovulation. I am convinced it is either the Humira or the combination of Humira with the corticosteroid. I have made an appointment to see the gynae as my rheumy was not sure it was the meds. The experience with Humira in South Africa is limited. Will give you feedback. Vijay0 -
slightly different, but mine have always been regular, every 28 day, last for about 4 days, all good, but recently they had only lasted maybe 3 days but the 2nd day is so heavym i can';t go out in case of leaks, sorry! it's like everything comes out in 1 day, this is since coming of mtx injection and going back to mtx tablets.
i'm sure all our meds cause problems, oh the joy's!!0
