Hi, I am also in Dundee. I was told I was ending the advanced stage and moving into end stage. I did not ask for this info, the Consultant gave this to me at my diagnosis.

They should tell you which stage of OA you are in. There are 3, early, advanced and end stage. Usually when your arthur is going through the advanced dterioration stage you may have problems with your nerves. There can be several issues which cause this. Mines is spinal stenosis, where the OA has progressed to the point the spinal canal has severely narrowed and also caused discs to bulge which pinch the nerve. This can cause sciatica, numbness and tingling and also in severe cases the loss of sexual function, or loss of bladder and bowel control. My OA started at 12, I had severe back pain but no problems with nerves until I was 32 and had carried two pregnancies. Unfortunately because I had assumed the pain was from my childhood illness I only realised I had arthur at end stage.

If you have any symptoms of sciatica or above, ask for an MRI which will give them a full account of what's happening. My xray results were supposed to be given to me within 3 weeks but I had a call the same day advising to go to A&E for an MRI as mass destruction showing on the xray. Only after the mRI did I find out I had 3 bulging discs and the stenosis. For me this is worse than the arthur. Please see your GP ASAP if you have any problems with your legs like this as it could be serious.

Hi I have oa in my spine. I'm not quite sure what your GP means by nerve endings. To me, and Im not medically trained, it means the nerves, which are like fibres, have become inflammed and sore.

I have a nerve in my neck, which has become compressed by the bones in my spine. The causes me a lot of pain. Hope this helps a little, someone else may explain it better. :) Love Sue
