Hi Katherine, I wore a Hospital issue gown, you take off anything metal, can't wear a bra because of the clips.

They put you in the "washing machine" that's what it looks like. It's very noisy, like a drill, but they give you earphones and a choice of music. If you are uncomfortable lying down, tell them and they will give you support cushions. Also if you are uncomfortable they will do your scan in short bursts checking you are ok to continue in between. I didn't have the dye as went into anaphylactic shock before with iodine dye. That dye is different but I think they were frightened to take the chance.

Very good thorough pictures, I found out I had alot more than I thought I did but at least I knew fully what was wrong. It's good you are having one as I've heard many people refused them. Good luck, it's not bad, honestly x

    Hi
I have had MRI on knee and it was fine.
You take off everything apart from your knickers.
Lay on a bed and they put these support type things around your knee, cushion under your head and ear plugs.
They leave the rooma nd then you are pull in to what I call a giant doughnut. When the scan is taking place it is very loud hnce why you need the ear plugs. However, when I was having mine done it was actually quite relaxing and I fell asleep! They will take several pictures each I know lasts about 4-5 minutes each. The scanner I went into had a countdown timer above my head which made the time pass very slowly which I think is why I fell asleep.
All together the scan lasted about 25 minutes.
I didnt have any dye as mentioned in above post.
You dont have anything to worr about when having a scan, you dont feel anythign. The worst part is the time dragging but if you fall asleep like I did then it should go fairly quickly!

    Hi Katherine

When I had an MRI scan, I had to remove anything metal, including my bra because of the metal fastenings, but I kept my upper clothes on. I was wearing a cardigan, and later I was glad because I found it a bit draughty and cold having to lie still. Although you are alone in the room, you can speak to the staff, and them to you via a microphone. I was told the results later, but I have never been shown any pictures.

I had an MRI of my knees earlier this year - it is just as the others have described - noisy and quite a long process. Can I recomend taking a dressing gown to wear - it was freezing cold where I had mine done and I was glad I'd taken my own long and cosy dressing gown to cover myself up as I needed that and one of their blankets!

Hi, I used to be a radiographer and carried out MRI scans.

As everyone has said you will not be able to wear anything metal, so i'm afrais its the lovely hospital gown.

You will prob go into the 'tunnel' feet first and once you are lying down a 'cage' will be placed over your knee, this just allows the transmission and ensures the image quality is to the highest standard.

It can be quite noisy so earplugs of headphones with music can be provided, also the Radiographer will be able to communicate to you through these.

The MRI scanner can overheat so the room is quite cool and would def suggest a dressing gown.

hi,i had mine done last month & i was allowed to keep my clothes on. no bra, nothing with metal fasteners.
i just wore jogging bottoms & a warm top.thick socks too, cause my feet get cold.
as i went in i closed my eyes & concentrated on the music,i was in there about 30 mins, they also gave me a nice comfy pillow.
they send you a letter to say what you can wear so **** others have suggested dressing gown if you cant wear your own clothes is a great idea.
i had 1 done yrs ago with just the gown & i shivered all the way through it,so it took longer.
good luck with the scan, its not to bad.debsx

Hi When I had mine, just before Christmas, all I had to do was take my bra off, like everyones saying, then put my jumper back on because its cold  I had a bell to press at any time I wanted to stop, but apart from the hard, cold plate you lay on, and the noise, all went well. Not long to wait now, Love Sue

My MRI scan came back normal.
No signs of inflamation or joint damage.

I do have rhematoid arthirits in all my joints..

Although that looks good, it doesn't help me. I have alot of pain in my right knee when i bend down and it came back normal? I've been sitting here crying for over half an hour now, i just really was counting on them because able to do something to make my knee better, it got to the point i was wishing operations on myself. I don't know what to do now, it seems like i'm lying or it's not as bad as i've said i don't usually like making a fuss but now i don't know who to turn to. If my knee doesn't get better i'm going to have to stop ballet, i've kept doing it as i was sure my knee would get better but it's been like this for months it might not even be arthritis, i don't care at this point what can be causing me thism uch pain that doesn't show up on an mri scan?

    About to give up hope,
    Katherine

Please do not give up hope. MRI's are not 100% accurate. Would you be able to seek a second opinion?
