Hello,
I've just returned from the hospital for my first check after carpel tunnel surgery. My stiches are out now, and I only have a sterile dressing on and it feels great to be able to move my hands again. He asked if the symptoms of pins and needles at night had gone, I told him they were a lot better. :D He said the arthritis in the fingers my also loosen up with time, as they now have more room to spread.

I have to go back in two months to see if I need physio and to assess the other hand for possible surgery. My fingers are a lot more comfortable, a bit stiff but that should get better. I've just got be careful for the next couple of months :D:D ,

For me, so far, the operation has been very worthwhile, Id recommend anyone with carpel tunnel to go ahead. Love Sue

Well, I haven't tried yet, but I feel I will be fine, so I'll have a go tomorrow, as I have a GP appointment. :) They feel stronger some how, and I'm much more in control of them, its strange to explain, really  :D Love Sue ps fingers are a bit stiff at the knuckle, but the doc said thats because I've had them supported for 2 weeks, got to keep making a fist!! :? :):) Husband looked a little worried!

So glad it all went well. I think I am on the same journey as yourself
my left hand is no better after the injection except for the swelling and pain up to my elbow, but my fingers are extremely sore on the inside (feel like they have been in the fire) but numb on the top.

I suppose the next thing will be the electro tests whatever they are. Forgotten what my consultant called them now. Do you know what I mean and did you have it done?

Anyway, so pleased you are ok and let us know how it goes

Hi I know what you mean an elctrode is place on the skin and another on the nerve point and a tiny current is passed through and the time it takes to make the muscle, fingers in this case, react and bend is measured to tell is something is interfering with the passage of the nerve. Thats what I had and it was positive. It was painles apart from a slight tickle and the odd feeling of your finger moving without control! . If your symptoms are really very obvious, they don't aslways do the test, but it is more usual to have to do it.

At our hospital hand surgery is part of plastic surgery, so they had to refer me over to plastics! :) I am glad I had it done as the pain in my left hand and some of the numbness are gone. The doc said it will get even better with time. I go back in 2 months to see if my right hand, which shows a worse measurment but gives a lot less pain, needs to be done. I can honestly say that it dosent worry me if I have to have it done and I'm not brave about these things! :?

If thats what it is and they want to release the nerve I'd give it a go! It does sound similar to me. Do you get numb hands when you read a book or paper? I did. The injections of steriod worked for about 2 weeks, that was no good :? The plastic surgion said I may need physio, but hes hopeful that I won't as my movement is good.
To be honest, I'm over the moon! :D Love Sue
