How do you all cope with pain.
I have just had a tentative diagnosis of arthritis by the A&E doctor who prescribed me some slightly stronger painkillers (cocodamol 500/15) and suggested i rub brufen gel in as i can't take anti inflams, but after 3.5 days still in lots of pain, so tired as well. i have to wait to friday to see my own doctor and am just so drained by the pain and everything else. I'm sitting here at work and i just want to ball my eyes out. is this normal?
does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Hi Crafty
The last place you wish to be is at work isn't it? Poor you. Of course you are going to feel weepy, desperate and desolate. That is not abnormal at all. That is what constant pain and tiredness does to you. It drags you down.
I take it, it is your ankle that is playing up big time. You need to wrap an ice pack around it, to dull the pain and sit with the leg elevated. Don't put the ice pack straight onto the skin, towel first or something to protect the skin but still be able to benefit from the coldness.
If the painkillers are not strong enough tell your gp when you see him - there is a choice of what he can give you.
Hope you feel better soon, even if only marginally - that is better than nothing.
Best wishes,

Hi,When I was first diagnosed with OA I was prescribed co codamol 500/15 but they didn't touch the pain at all.I then went to 500/30 co codamol and they did work for a while but in the end they were still not strong enough.I now have Tramadol and they have been Ok so far, although it's the steroids I'm on that has helped the pain most. It is very normal to feel tired, rundown and weepy with arthritis and also lack of sleep doesn't help. You will have good days and bad days but once you get the meds sorted out things will get better for you. This is a good place to come whether just for a moan or to get support from other members.Take care,Breane.x :P0

Hi
Good advice from Elna as usual.
You must feel a bit scared at the moment - that's where we all come in - to offer support until you get things sorted. The GP may have more ideas, but I am glad you have some meds to help a little.
Take care and keep posting

i was in so much pain last night that my husband had me call the out of hours service for some advice. as i had some tramadol for somethign a few months ago, they have told me to take 2 x 50mg and 2 x paracetamol 4 times a day - that seems rather strong to me. Just tried to get an advice call from the doctors to talk to them.
trouble is i feel really grotty today, feeling sick and headachy and so tired. just not sure what to do next.
thanks for all your advice, you are a wonderful bunch of people.0 -
Hi crafty
Thank goodness you were not alone and hubby did something positive. Best speak with a doctor today. Possibly the meds that are making you feel nauseaus and headachy. Goodness it is one thing after another but you will get there hopefully sooner than later.
Sending you a gentle cyber hug.
Luv
