Hi everyone, just thought i'd drop you a note,I've been on enbrel for 5weeks now,at first i could not believe how good it is,i noticed a difference the next morning,it just got better from then on. swollen joints and fatigue were still the same, but i was told that, that would take a few months to go away. After week 4 i woke up in the morning and felt like i was back in my old body,i was in so much pain,i could'nt believe it .recently had a flareup, back on high dose of steroid's,it's like it has just stopped working.Has this happened to anyone else? does it quote;start working again.i was so happy that i could finally live (a relatively normal life)and start enjoying my son,now im back to square one again.

Hi Sorry to hear you are having problems i am also on entanercept and find that it was great at first but now after a few months seem to have pain in my neck - have trouble sleeping and feel very very tired.

The way entanercept works is it sort of shuts down you immune system as with my anklosing spondilitus the imune system attacks itself and causes nthe body to react so the entanercept shuts the imune system down so that you dont get the symptoms thats why they say most people taking it are prone to picking up more bugs and have to have regular blood tests done etc.

I am thinking maybe our bodys imune system may have started to think...hang on a min this entanercept shouldnt be here and then tries to fight the benefits of the drug

Imagine like what doctors say about antibiotics they tend to not like perscribing them often as our bodys can get used to them and eventually block them out so that they no longer work to fight off infections, maybe this is what is happening with the entanercept as i think its still a fairly new drug.

Sorry if its a bit long this post its just the only way i could explain it (sort of)

Hi I can relate I was prescribed humira about 5 months ago and fantastic at first it was a miracle. However, swelling and pain has come back and just know that I am going to be given the mtx hard sell when I go back. Lets just hope like you say that it kicks back in again. Heres hoping.

Hi mrs dalloway, i think that humira will probably be my next lot of treatment,if they take me off enbrel,it's so disheartning!!!!! that nothing seems to work. iwas on methotrexate it was one of the first treatments one they gave me,i became quite ill on it,so i know that, thats out of the question for me. lets hope there's a miracle out there.fingers crossed......well if we could!!!!.take care karen

I know every time I hear something on the news about a medical break through I hold my breath thinking it might be our turn! one day. It's a shame as well as the humira started off so well and I honestly thought that this would be the one. However, one glimmer of hope is that when we had to fight to get me on the treatment one question we had was what if it didn't work? I didn't want to be back to square one with nothing. The reply was that we had almost moved up a square by being put on this treatment and that anything else considered would be it's equivalent if that makes sense? After 13 years of this and one tkr already I am starting to get tired now.
