Poor circulation and atenolol

I had a heart attack 3 years ago and was put on beta blockers. Since then I have had purple legs and cold feet. I recently went to the doc and said I thought it was the beta blocker causing the poor circulation. He took me off them gradually and my legs and feet are less colourful and less cold. I'm mentioning it here because a lot of people with RA have heart problems and like me they may be wondering if it is their RA or the drugs causing the poor circulation. The doc said the benefits of beta blockers post heart attack are most marked in the first 2 years so it was ok for me to try without them.

Hi, I used to take Atenalol for headaches and found that it affected my circulation. :? My hands and feet were always cold, and when I mentioned this to my GP he said it was the Atenolol causing it.It seems that Beta Blockers take the blood away from the extremities(fingers, feet etc).I stopped taking them about 18 months ago and since then my circulation has improved greatly. For some reason, since being off the Atenolol I rarely get headaches now.But it did work while I was on them.Strange how some meds work! Breane. :P

    Hi

I've been taking Atenol for six months now. I was getting really hot but it was because of the tramadol which I've cut down to one or two at night (I was on 5-6 daily) and the hot sweats have stopped completely. I have noticed that the tips of my fingers take a long time to warm through and my feet are like ice.

I wear bed socks around the house as well as my slippers when it's really cold. Dreading our heating bill!

    Take care.
