Does anyone know where I can find some info on knee resurfacing. I've found stuff on Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, and partial knee replacements. Are they the same idea but for different joints, or completely different?

Hi
I'm not going to be any help but will be interested to read responses. I've got OA in both knees and it has decided to take up residence in other parts of my body too - hands and right shoulder and even my feet!
Knee resurfacing - sounds like it's being plastered ! I'm off to see the specialist next week and I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I expect this initial appointment will be just to go get a history of my condition. My friends tell me I come over as really capable/confident and I'm to ensure the specialist is aware that I'm suffering. I hadn't seen a good friend in over a year and she was upset when she saw how much my walking and mobility had deteriorated. She tried to hide it but I could see it in her face.
We're having a party today for our son and there are going to be a number of people there we haven't seen in over 3 years - I think they'll be surprised to see how disabled I have become.
Do you have RA or OA??stralachlan wrote:Does anyone know where I can find some info on knee resurfacing. I've found stuff on Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, and partial knee replacements. Are they the same idea but for different joints, or completely different?0 -
Hi Mary
I have googled for info and like you, cannot find any either. Well, not for Birmingham KNEE resurfacing, only for the hip. I wonder if surfacing and partial both mean the same op? Just a thought. There is an Oxford partial knee replacement op!! He would not have muddled the two, would he?
As your GP mentioned it, I would put him on the spot and ask him for more information or at least point you in the right direction.
I hope someone comes up with some info for you.
All the best

LOL - that's exactly what it needs - a nice smooth surface. Its OA. I think my GP might have been mixing up terms, but I'm not sure, cause he is the one at the surgery who specialises in the elderly and hence arthritis (I'm 35!)0
