Hi all, may i ask, those that have had this operation, did you experience a lot of pain after? I had this procedure on my knee 2 weeks ago, and my recovery has been amazing 'but', I catch myself howling in pain sometimes when I move in certain ways sometimes.......... does this eventually go please? or substantially settle down? I haven't been able to straighten or bend fully my left leg for about a year now, so a surgeon (2nd opinion) decided to take the bold step (against my consultants advice) to perform this op'............ I'm not impatient, the pain is totally different.........before the op' I could hardly move and it was a deep throbbing pain 24/7, this is little throbbing but every now and again excruciating...... Your experience and advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks x

    Oooh Tam!
That sounds a bit on the apinful side to me!
Someone with some reall knowledge will no doubt come on soon, but me - I think if the 'old' pain has gone then it should have been a success.
I do know that your knee is prob well-bruised inside and that that sort of bruising takes ages to sort out. You are probably just catching it at the wrong angle evey now and then
When do you go for your check-up?
    Take care

    Hi Tam

My experience is as follows, for what it is worth!!

I have had three arthros on my knees, 2 on one and 1 on the other. The first one I had, I felt that every now and again, that a tiny piece of bone or something had been left in and was floating around and got caught somewhere and OUCH, it gave me jip. Like you I would shout out

On mentioning it to the consultant, he said he would perform the op again, that being the reason why I had 2 done on one knee. That got rid of the now and again pain, but in the end being free of pain did not last long for me. Same with the other knee, not pain free for long. That was my experience of arthros.

    I wish you well.

    Luv

I had one about 6 years ago. It really wasn't an amazing success. I think you need to get on the phone.
I read that they are being phased out now as new things take over? I'm sure someone will know more than me.
    Best wishes

Thanks all for your replies, I go for a check up next week, so will mention the sharp pain then, I am however sooooooooo thrilled to have had the one way valve removed and the fluid remove from calf (valve that leads into the calf) as all the fluid had burst out of my knee into there and had gone into the calf. I no longer look like a marathon runner on one side lol. I know that these procedures have a tendency to be unsuccessful but I was willing to give it a go as simply waiting for a drug to work to sort out RA is still ongoing and I've had this diabolical prob for 12 months now............ who knows, I may be lucky. I have searched the web and found the recovery for a synovectomy is approx 12 weeks, so maybe things will settle down. Thanks for all your replies and have a good weekend xxxxx

I had an arthroscopy on my big toe in March and the pain is now worse my surgeon said they are fantastic and takes all pains away so doesnt know why there is pain and worse at that. Im so glad to hear they are being phased out as obviously they are not so 'great!' afer all.
