I have finally been given a date for my op. I have FAI and OA of the hip and I have to get an Osteocondral Plasty carried out on my right hip. I am pleased to have a date but also nervous.

Has anyone else undergone a similar procedure?

Anne

Hello, I'm reall pleased for you to have a date for surgery! :) I think its only natural to be nervious of something like this - I knowI would be. I think its partly because we hand over our body to someone else to look after for us. Also most of don't really understand whats happening or had expeience of it, and even if we have had surgery, its not something we do for fun!

Sorry I've not heard of this operation, but I'm sure someone on here will have done and they will be able to answer any questions you have.

I hope everything goes well for you and you feel the benifit of the op quickly. Love and best wishes Sue

    Hello,

My husband (32) has FAI. Had a hip arthroscopy today! They chip off excess bone (impingement). This was a better option than a hip replacement. He will have other hip done another time. Will be home tomorrow.

Hope your husband makes a speedy recovery. Amazing how quickly people are in and out of hospital these days.

    My good wishes, Sue

    Hi Anne,

Glad you've got a date - have you got long to wait?

By the way what is FAI - I think I can work out what the middle letter stands for? :?

Hadn't heard of this one but wanted to wish you well for the opp, did you say the date? Well you stay calm and I hope it all goes well for you. Take care, Cris

    Hi Kat,

I like the sound of that one, much better than replacement for me just now so will be asking about it next appointment. I hope your husband is soon back to his old self and please could you keep us posted? Thanks Cris

    Hi,

I go in on the 9th of August Op on the 10th. Of course this is not within the 12 week guidelines!!

I had a hip arthroscopy in March but there was so much damage they are going for open hip surgery. The good news is they reckon they can save the ball and socket joint so won't need the replacement at the moment. Although the procedure does sound complicated.

FAI is Femoracetabluar Impingement, in my case this has also caused secondry OA. Concentrating on my right hip at the moment.

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Would like to wish you good luck for the op. It's suprising what theycan do with complicated these days. You'll be fighting fit in no time.

Hope your able to sit back, relax and enjoy July. Apparently the weather is going to be great. Get yourself some treats in, get a good book. You are bound to be nervous. Anyway, good luck and will wait to see you on come dancing next year.
