Has anyone tried having a local steroid injection in to an affected joint? I am wondering if it is possible to have a steroid injection for the fingers? Does the injection have to go directly into the joint or can it go into the hand and potentially alleviate pain and swelling in all the fingers? :D

hi, i had a steroid injection into my hand which did really help with the inflamation and pain in my hands.
my hands are one of my worst joints which don't seem to respond much to my normal meds.
the 1st steroid injection i had was done into my wrists, although it was a bit painful it really did help, i've also had a steroid injection into my little finger due to a nodule, the nodule was causing my alot of pain but has been much better since.
    i hope this helps

    Thank you Sue.
Maybe sounds like a silly question, given that we are all in pain anyway-well most, but I'm a big pansy about needles! How much did it hurt to have injected in to your hands?

    Hi
i had injection in my hand under middle finger going towards plam.
i am a real wimp, normally faint when i have a jab or blood test.
i told them before hand that i might faint so they got me to lay down to do it.
it did hurt but only lasted a few seconds and it helped me so much, i would deffinatly have it again if i need to. had to not use my hand for 24 hours after to give it chance to work and for that day it felt abit worse and swollen, but by day 3 if was all working and no pain.
i know everyone is different so may not be the same as you but might be worth a try.
    good luck

it kind of feels like a pins and needles pain, but like the pins and needles are being pushed in, if that makes sense? but only for a few seconds, as soon as the injection is done the pain goes and it will help you with the pain.

I have had a few injections in my fingers or thereabouts and it is not too pleasant but lasts only seconds.

I am not keen on them but the benefit is huge. I ask the specialist NOT to give me a running commentary but get on with it, I do not look at the needle or anything, shut my eyes usually and try to take deep breaths. It works for me.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

    Hi

I have just had a steroid injection in both shoulders and the knee. Just got back from the dr. It was painful but bearable. I have been in such awful pin for the last week so I am hoping this works. I have had one in the index finger knuckle. Again it was painful when he did the injection but the pain did not last long and the relief I got was worth it. I would recommend it. Good luck. Vijay

I had steriod injections in my wrists for carpel tunnel. They worked but not for long, but I've just had my first one released with surgery and its feeling fine so far. Fingers crossed.
