Before I was diagnosed I was always under the impression that rheumatic conditions were made worse by the cold. I have sero+ RA which was diagnosed in Oct last year so have only really experienced havbing it in the winter time. My hubby got very excited about moving overseas to take advantage of a warmer climate - something he's always been very keen on while I'd rather stay in the UK.
Anyway - in this heatwave it is clear to me that warmer weather does nothing at all to relieve my symptoms - now, as well as being in agony I'm hot, bothered and tired as it's too hot to sleep - move overseas - I don't think so!!!

I've found it depends what kind of heat it is. My biggest problem is the humidity at the moment. Dry heat is lovely - I find that really helps. I have the same probs with humidity that I do with rain and snow. Dry cold weather is also really good though!0

Oh dear!
I've always been like that with my RA with people thinking I'm crackers and surely I should be better in the warmth.
In truth I'm not; as you found hot, uncomfortable and inflamed is not a happy place to be.
You have my sympathies.

I think at the end of the day we're all individual in what suits our condition.
I'm better in warmer weather but that's because when it's cold and I'm shivery my muscles tense and this has a knock-on effect with my joints and makes me ache.
I also think that when I'm having a bad time I look for something to blame, i.e. the cold/heat, or I've been overdoing it/not doing enough or its what I've eaten or I'm particularly stressed. I'm probably just having a bad time because that's the nature of RA as it waxes and wanes - who knows
Good job I didn't up sticks and move I'd need a caravan depending on what I'm blaming at the time

I have found that warm dry air is much better than the sort of hot clammy weather we get here.
I do find that the cold weather makes things worse.
I know lets all go on a round the world trip and find out where we feel better and then we can all move to the right climate for us. (or just enjoy the round the world trip )0 -
Hi Ramummy,
Technically I don't have ra and I don't know much about outside the UK but I do know where you live should always be home for you. I don't know as that makes sense but I am Cornish and take me out of Cornwall and some part of me pines and I end up doing 500 miles just to watch the sun go down over the Cape once a month! When I manged to come home a bit of me felt reunited so just think very carefully before you move.
Bones well they like something one day and hate it the next it seems but as Madwestie says we have a humid wet thing in the UK, especially down here, and maybe some climates are better than others? My circulation likes the warmth and when I was 17 and found out just how bad it was I was told to move to Spain...... I didn't! Take care, Cris0
