Hi Fiona,
Welcome to the site, I hope you find it helpful.
I have a bit of oa and it is quite common here and it maybe that your Dad isn't being given the pain relief that suits him as yet? It can be difficult to find something that works for 'you' and there are quite a few pain relief/ anti inflammatories etc out there so maybe you could have a word with his doctor? It maybe if he is on other meds that the choice compatible isn't as good but it may well be worth asking.
If you re-post over on the living with forum more people will see it and someone may be able to help you more there. Also the helpline people are very good, and very helpful. they can be contacted by phone on the 0800 number or else on the chat to the helpline team or by private email.
It must be hard for you all at the moment and I hope you can get your Dad some decent pain relief soon. Take care, Cris0 -

Hello, I'm sorry your father has Osteoarthritis, I have it as well and I take painkillers to help me. Anti inflamatories can also help a lot, by reducing the inflamation that causes pain. But it can take some time for the docs to find the write medication to help. Sometimes pysio therapists can help, by giving gentle exercises and manipulation to keep the joints flexable and reduce the stiffness.
Ostioarthritis, although painful but, expercise, as long as it is gentle, helps keep joints moving, walking and cycling are also good ways to keep fit. Your fathers GP or physio will help him choose the right things to do. Their is a lot of information on this site, which you can find on this site, also if you riing the numper in the corner of the page, they can tell you a lot more and send you information, if that is what you would like. I hope you and your father find this site of some help. It is a very good site and I have learned a lot form it. Hope to hear how you get on. Love Sue0
