Hi
I just feel so down at the moment. My x-ray results are back and the receptionist rang me today to say that there were mild changes but nothing serious. I have no idea what that all means (left ankle query oa). I am just in so much pain. they are trying me on different tablets (naproxen), which i have to be really careful taking as i have asthma but they are not yet helping. If i take the tramadol which does help but only on 100mg 3 - 4 times a day i do get pain relief, but it is all the side effects. I just don't know what to do. I have no concentration and i just want to cry all the time now. I have a phone consulation with the doctor on thursday morning, but i'm not sure how i am going to cope until then.
i'm sorry for unloading like this

Hi crafty
I am sorry to hear you feel down in the dumps and a phonecall like that from a receptionist would not have helped matters either. It may not be serious to her but if you are in such pain, then it is very serious to you. Sometimes exrays do not show up too much but mri's give a more precise picture of what is going on. Tramadol can be good but the few times I have taken it, it has made be feel really woosy so I leave well alone if I can. Are you able to bring the telephone convo with the gp forward at all if you talk to your friendly, sympathetic receiptionist at the surgery?
I hope you get some more positive help soon, in the meantime I am sending you over a cyber hug. (())

Hi
Sorry to hear that you are suffering. My GP told me once that some sufferers of OA have little or no pain - I was amazed. I have always suffered!!! I had pain years before they finally diagnosed OA. I do hope they give you something for it. In the meantime you must rest. Have a warm bath or use a heat pad on the affected area until your doc sorts out meds suitable for you. Sometimes when I have a flare up I resort to lathering deep heat on my joints - anything to be pain free and comfy.
Take care.

Hi Crafty
I'm sorry to hear that you are in such a lot of pain. I have pain in my ankle too, and an X-ray didn't show any OA, but my doctor still thinks that is what it is. He said that X-rays don't always show it up.
Getting results from receptionists can be a bit unsatisfactory. When I had my knees X-rayed, It was the receptionist at my doctor's who told me that I definitely had got OA. It was a bit of a shock to be told that, and I would have preferred to have been told by the doctor himself so that I could ask him questions. As it was, I had to wait for an appointment, and worried a lot in the meantime.
I hope you will get more help soon,
