Hi
I haven`t been posting as much recently as I have been trying to sort some kind of normality, work, etc... But my body won`t let me forget. (sorry i feel a rant coming)
My new hip has been good on the whole, a few aches in muscles at times but physio has referred me for hydrotherapy. I am still having physio for my low back pain and feel it is helping.
But.......my other hip has started to complain. It is painful after walking a while and has started to give way, painfully. My physio is concerned that I will fall as a result and put my new hip at risk. :( I am due to see my ortho again next month to discuss what I want to do about my other hip, (I have hip dysplasia) which he has advised a periacetabular osteotomy. It is a bigger op than the THR and I was hoping to have some `normality` (whats that I hear you ask!).
Work is going ok on the whole but I get stiffness and pain if sittng for too long, and my own hip hurts if I walk too much, , any ideas for what to do for best welcome!
Then to put the tin hat on it all, today i wake up with neck and shoulder pain. Arghhhh! A longstanding problem which rears its head now and again. I am in agony, driving difficult and it is giving me a terrible headache. I have physio this morning so will mention it.
Sorry I have moaned so much but needed to vent as I keep telling people `I`m fine` when they ask. I`m fed up of saying how I really feel, so they must be fed up of hearing it!
Hope you are all doing ok
NB

oh i hope you get things sorted, hip pain is horrible, it effects so much, as for neck / shoulder pain, i'm with you, mine has been playing up for a while and it's awful.
good luck with the physio, i'm starting 'hand therapy' next week and really hoping it helps me.
take care and try to rest, i can't help much but i know when my hips hurt i resort to sleeping with a pillow between my knees!

Sorry you are suffering so much at present.

Arthur can be such a vicious ****. We get one area sorted out, so he shifts over to another and starts giving us hell.

Do you think you went back to work a bit too soon NB? I know what a strenous, and responsible job you have. Also, it seems a bit soon after your THR to be having to face more surgery.

Sorry I`m not being more helpful, but I`m thinking of you.......Ange.

    Hi NB

Sorry to hear you're having problems so soon after your THR, and everything was going so well.
I hope it all gets sorted quickly so you can get back to some normality.

    Hi Nearly,

I was thinking the other day I wonder how Nearly's getting on but I am sorry it seems to be coming to a head with the dysplasia. Could it settle down a bit or is it one of those things that can't?

Its probably best to see what your Ortho says and then make the best choice from there for you. Its not an easy on your bones job you are in, sitting doesn't always help and pain makes all of you tense well I know you know all that and its totally understandable you feel as you do. I wish I could give you an answer that would help but maybe when you see the Ortho's they can? In the meantime go easy with your self and take care, Cris x

    Hi
Thanks to all of you who have replied. It is so reassuring to have you lot here to talk to. :D
I have been to physio. He didn`t do anything for my neck/shoulder, just my back. I asked about the hydrotherapy, and thank goodness I did , because it seems he hadn`t done the referral yet!! :x ALthough he asked me if I wanted to try it 3 weeks ago! Anyway, he has done the form today and the wait is 4 weeks. So I had better dust down my swimming cossy>
I don`t think I went back to work too soon, but to be honest I had to as my money was running out. I am still on reduced hours using annual leave now, and haven`t resumed all duties yet, but am increasing to near normal duties. To be honest I need to feel `useful` at work and not a malingerer, which I feel like at the moment. Most people are great but I do get some snide comments. But they are really stressed and busy and need me back to speed asap.
I had a few down days last week and lots of tears. I think it is because I was expecting a lot of my THR, and it has been a real success, but as most people on here, there is always another area to join in , thanks arthur!
The dyplasia won`t go away without intervention, and the OA with get worse with time and wear. It really is deciding which surgery option will be best for me. I am seeing my surgeon next month and he said if I want to , he will refer me to a specialist in surgery for dysplasia, PAO (peri acetabular osteotomy) etc...
Thanks again for being there x

    Hi Nearly,

I hope they can get you into the hydro quicker than your expecting but 4 weeks isn't too long I guess, if your not waiting for it.

I think it might be best to get the referral, see what they say and then decide who you want doing it. You don't have to use the referral people if you don't like them but there may be a better long term thing with the ones who specialise in them.

Easy to say but try not to let it get you down too much, pain always feels worse if you are feeling a bit down. Take care and again I am sorry its come to a head quicker than you'd like. ((( ))) Cris x

Hi NB, wondered where you had got to lately, thought you were out sunbathing 8) Sorry to hear youve had a bad few days, you should tell work when your in pain, you never no you might get a bit of sympathy, being as youve had a major op and gone straight back to work! They should be grateful youve gone back so soon with all your other problems :!:

Well Im still plodding on waiting as usual for a date. How many times have I said that  My surgeons on annual leave, so it looks like August now. I wish it would hurry up, as Im getting alot of pain in my knee, back, and rest of leg! Hope you get some pain relief soon, the proceedure you mention sounds like it has quite a success rate with Hip Dysplasia, according to Facebook website. Take care jk

    Hi jk
Sorry to hear your date isn`t sorted yet. Lets hope August is your month. I have seen that group on facebook, and its surprising how many people are affected. Also reassuring that so many have good results from PAO.
I find it hard to talk to my work colleagues about how I am feeling (physically or otherwise) but know they can tell when I am in pain. I can`t hide that unfortunately. My boss knows how things are.
Unfortunately I haven`t been able to really enjoy the sun, due to sunny when I`m at work and rainy on days off!
    Take care

Hello, Sorry you're about the problems with the other hip. I hope you feel better when you talk to the surgeon and decide on the best thing to do for it. Take care. Love Sue
